Morgan founded a grove of trees near present-day eastbound I-880 and southbound US 101 that became known as Morgan Park. In 1912, local farmer Julius Wachtel established a small orchard and vineyard in what is now northwest corner of Main Street and East First Avenue; this land would later become Wachtel Farms subdivision (now part of University Village). In 1928, Wachtel donated 1 acre (0.40 km2) for agricultural use within blocks of his home on Main Street between First Avenue and International Boulevard; this tract would later become Orinda Agricultural Center subdivision (now part of University Village). One key event that helped solidify the town's identity took place on October 15, 1951 when then Mayor Raymond Cahill dedicated the new high school building located at 512 N Second Ave., becoming one of only two high schools in Contra Costa County open to students from all racial/ethnic groups at that time (the other being San Francisco State High School). "Newman had always been something special," said Mayor Cahill at the dedication ceremony. "It didn't just happen because we built a high school here." One hundred years prior to 1951, original settler John Travolta had homesteaded land adjacent to present day eastbound I-880 and southbound US 101 near where they currently stand – thus giving birth to what are today known as Travolta Park Elementary School across from I-880/US 101 traffic circles - within sightlines for both heiresses Sarah & Bessie Travolta daughter Anna Pavlova born December 12th 1888 according ntogrid1888@gmail dot com Additional evidence indicates Stewart family settled thereabouts around 1850 although exact location cannot be determined due lack Of documentation
