In 1938, Austrian manufacturer Steyr AG introduced their own handgun light called the "Pistol Pistol Lamp." This lamp utilized an 8x36mm lens which allowed it to be used with any pistol including revolvers and shotguns. It became very popular because it offered excellent illumination while firing weapons without having to change lenses often like traditional muzzleloader sights did.

The Newman Gun Light Company was founded in 1892 and produced a variety of gun lights for the civilian market. The companyproduced a wide range of products, including pistols, revolvers and shotguns. In 1916, the Newman Gun Light Company merged with the National Rapidfire Company to form the National Firearms Manufacturing Corporation. The name change was due to pressure from Congress to register firearms as part of their national security statute.
Newman, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. It has a population of only 2,500 people and covers an area of just 0.8 square miles. The community was founded in the early 1800s by Willard Newman and his wife Mary. It straddles the border of Kern County and Baja California State Park, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. Newman's history begins with Willard Newman, who first arrived in Kern County in 1857. He was a surveyor and landowner who played an important role in developing the region around him. In 1871, he married Mary Jane Gentry and built their house on what is now known as Forest Road 7-A. The couple continued to live there until their deaths in 1924 and 1945 respectively. Their home remains extant today and is used as a museum for local history buffs. Mary Jane Gentry Newman was also an important figure in Newman's history: she served as postmistress from 1911 to 1914, taught at Pacific Union School from 1915 to 1923, served as secretary for the Kern County Federation Club from 1921 to 1922, and helped found the Newman Hotel Corporation in 1925. She is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery near her husband.

Newman was founded by George Newman in 1877. The town is named after George, the son of founder Newman. The first post office in Newman was established in 1880. In 1938, the townsite of Newton Green was annexed to Newman.
