Newman, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is located about 60 miles (100 km) east of Fresno and 40 miles (64 km) northeast of San Francisco. The Newman post office opened in 1887 and closed in 1959. Newman is named after John Newman, an American pioneer who founded the town on a property purchased by James Wright in 1887. The first settlers were German Lutheran missionaries from Jena, Germany, who arrived in 1887 and built a small log cabin known as "The Hermitage." In 1909, the Newman School District was formed from parts of other districts that had been merged into it. In 1935, the name of the school district was changed to Montgomery County Schools after Counties Menlo and Montgomery were combined to form California’s new state government. After World War II ended and Northern California became racially diverse, some people decided to move to what they saw as a more tolerant environment than Southern Californian values based around ranching and agriculture. In 1951, when the old schoolhouse burned down near present-day downtown Newman, businessman Sam Dixon rented land adjacent to it for use as his own home until he could build a new one himself. His donation funded construction of what is now downtown's first shopping center—an important milestone for downtown growth during that period because there was no commercial development nearby for retail customers to browse before coming into town. On July 16th 1953 Gov Jerry Brown signed legislation creating Palo Alto–Woolridge High School District No 1 which included much of what is now Downtown Newman including most of present day Main Street between First Street & Second Street across from City Hall

In 1931–1932, Newman experienced one of the most devastating earthquakes ever to hit California when an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck western San Bernardino County including Newman; it killed more than 100 people and injured hundreds more. Newmans efforts to rebuild started immediately after that quake with many new buildings being built including a hospital which still stands today called Valley Hospital & Medical Center (now Adventist Healthcare) as well as several schools such as Holy Cross High School which reopened after being closed for years due to damage caused by following quake which also destroyed much of what remained from that era’s school district
Newman is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 24,969 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Alameda County. Newman was founded in 1853 by Dr. George H. Newman and John Latham as a small settlement on the San Francisco Peninsula west of Oaklanduntech Station. In 1875, the town was renamed after Sir Edmund Acheson Newmarch (1828-1906), Secretary of State for India and Burma under Queen Victoria. Newman is located on state Route 9 north of downtown Oakland and east of Fremont. The city limits extend to Interstate 580 to the south and east, and state Route 27 to the north. The eastern border of Newman includes part ofbound I-580 lanes that were realigned along new alignment in 2007 when Uptown Oakland became an inner city area adjacent to Newark Airport; this community now borders both cities constitutionally but politically they are considered separate jurisdictions despite having similar boundaries with respect to residentships, infrastructure and police services According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Newman has a hot desert climate, abbreviated "BWh". According to historical records it had a Mediterranean climate until about 1910 due largely to its location near major water bodies such as Lake Merritt and Coyote Creek which provided irrigation for farmer's fields throughout much of Contra Costa County while alsoallowing year round temperature swings within their respective decades from dry summer months into wetter winter months caused by annual rainfall totals well below average during those seasons creating yearly ecosystems that vary greatly from decade-to-decade without significant human intervention
