This event showcased American firearms at their best while helping raise money for social causes suchas school lunches and emergency door-to-door distributionof food baskets during Depression Era recessions

That year it also gained jurisdiction over portions of what are now east Contra Costa County and parts of Kern County. In 1870, Newark annexed part of Tulare County as well as Humboldt and Stanislaus counties to form its new metropolitan area which had a total population of 2 million people by 1890. In 1902 developers John Dolan and Lewis Jaffe built what would become one of America's most famous buildings – The New Jersey Library – at Sixth Street and Broadwalk in downtown Newark. The library would grow into one of the largest public libraries in North America before being destroyed by fire on November 15, 1926; only 10% of its contents were saved and reopened seven months later under new management with much more extensive damage suffered from the fire than originally thought possible due to insurance claims negotiations that followed In 1957 Newark merged with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 527 (AALU) to form National Transportation Workers Union local 821 (NTWU), one of four international unionsaffiliated with The International Longshoremen’s Association (TIA). This merger represented about 50 percent of all industrial union membership among UAW locals throughout North America until 1984 when Aalu merged into Teamsters International Union Local 521 (TIU) effective July 1st thereby eliminating all international unions from NTWU membership status
