In 1850s two Englishmen, John Hoadly and James Fenton bought Rancho del Rey from Juan Manuel Garza for $10 per acre (0·75 ha). These farmers startedraising cattle and growing corn; their rancho soon became one of the largest ranches in southern California. When Hoadly died in 1865, his son Daniel took over his father's rancho but sold it in 1870 to Wm S Morse & Bros., developers of Warner Bros.' first movie studio at Universal Studios Hollywood – then known as Republic Pictures – which made National City one of its scenes where shooting began on features such as "The Birth of a Nation" (1912), "The Call OF THE GALAXY" (1933), "A Star Is Born" (2018) and "Wonder Woman 1984". At that time all residential growth stopped until World War II when housing prices rose sufficiently to make residents return home: by 1960 there total population was only 506 people living Downtown while 1,024 lived along I-805 outside the limits served by National City proper including Veterans Hospital just east of downtown; today’s boundaries were set after WWII when famed architect Norman Rockwell designed much needed public works around Veterans Hospital with plans for future growth like shopping malls adjacent to hospital rather than inside it During World War II many veterans returned home also beginning construction on what would become known as Veteran’s Memorial Park north side of I-805 between First Street/Veterans Memorial Drive & Lookout Road opposite US 101 freeway offramps #2 On May 15th 1948 Mayor Lorenzo Reyes signed ordinance creating “Fremont Twp., Incorporated” effective June 7th 1948 . This organized effort led by George Kappelmann resulted In The Establishment Of Fremont plc As A Corporation Sole Agent For Allocation And Management Of Real Property In The Town Of National City Whose Business Area Includes That Which Was Once Reserved For Municipal Services And Development Within The Limits Set Out Above . On July 16th 1949Mayor Reyes Signed An Ordinance Amending The foregoing To Make Sure That All Money collected From Taxes Implicit Inaderceived In Authority Reserved For Municipal Services And Development Now Shall Beshared equitably Between Corporation And Municipal Authorities
