However, it remained an important center for trade and commerce until after World War II when it diminished in importance due to economic decline and suburban development. National City, California is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 128,821 as of the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1849 by brothers George and Solomon National City. It became part of the United States in 1850. National City is located on the eastern edge of San Diego County and extended into Otay Mesa to the west. For centuries, Native Americans lived near or within sight of what is now National City. They hunted and gathered there for food and materials they could use to build their homes and villages. In 1819, José Altamirano found an area that would become known as Rancho Encinal de las Pulgas (Rancho Pumphouse). He sold it to Francisco Bracamonte for $1,000 cash. Rancho Encinal served as a grazing ground for cattle until it was acquired by Antonio del Valle in 1839. del Valle named it Nuevocampo (New Camp), after his ranch at Nuevo Lomas east of downtown Los Angeles In 1785 Juan Bautista Naranjo explored what would eventually become San Diego Bay when he sailed downcurrent from Point Loma on his vessel "San Miguel". His ships anchored near present-day National City about 12 miles (19 km) northeast of where he left them on July 25th.. Captain John Doolittle arrived at dock with his ship aground off Point Loma less than three weeks later having sailed around Cape Horn On October 3rd 1800 Antonio Canutillo landed his party including Pedro Cámpora at what is today known as Anza Field on the north bank of Mission Bayou oppositepresent-day Del Mar Cemetery This event marked beginning of Mexican era in coastal region From this day forward missionaries began arriving with goods such as ammunition and clothing to help preserve Mexican land while also providing religious teachings As early as January 14th 1825 Fray Junípero Serra arrived at Anza Field with 35 men hoping to establish a new mission here but because no water existing nearby they had to abandon Their efforts due to lack of funding At first only Indian converts were baptized but soon many more came including Isidro Garza who started baptizing people regardless of whether or not they believed In Spanish The original church which was built over 100 years ago still stands today next door To Itself called El Presbiterio de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo been remodeled numerous times Over time many other churches have been built here too most notably Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe which building was completed in 1912 After Mexico's Independence from Spain national guard moved into town during reconstruction period starting around 1870s so much so that school district decided against teaching there until 1920s When finally all buildings were torn down except Carrollton Chapel which still stand today inside one large Salesforce office complex

This led to increased social unrest and economic instability which continue until today
