On October 17th 1909 Rosenwald donated 1 mile (1 kilometer) northeast from his original location at 6031 NATIONAL CITY RD., corner OF BALDWIN RD., for use as an airport prototype runway following World War I aviator Wiley Post's request (). The railroad left a lasting legacy on the community by providing jobs and economic opportunity for its residents. In 1912, President Woodrow Wilson delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress from NATIONAL CITY Hall. That year also saw enactment of legislation designating National City as one of five national historic districts (NHD) around America honoring history and culture through protected areas that include sites such as military hospitals and college campuses. On July 15th of that year, NATIONAL CITY merged with nearby Daly City to form a single municipality known today as San Francisco Municipal District No.. 2
