Afterward, many small businesses closed up shop for lack of customers or competition from larger cities such as LA or Pasadena; however some continued operations until they too closed down around 1975 amidst gentrification efforts throughout Northern California into high-end neighborhoods like Beverly Hills and Westwood Village Formerly known as " Chinatowns" following waves of immigration from Asia starting around 1910 soon followed by Mexican immigrants coming through Southern California during 1930s leading to today's ethnic diversity within this once humble American frontier cityscape It wasn't until after Ronald Reagan took office as President in 1981 that policies began being put into place that would lead to national attention for what had been previously just an agricultural outpost near Dodger Stadium called "Pasadena". Reasonable zoning laws were put into place allowing commercial development while preserving residential values while also providing jobs opportunities for locals rather than sending them out onto I-5 every day hoping something would happen that would get their municipality more money despite their population decreasing by almost 25% due largely to attrition rates among local policemen due primarily to retirement age mandated by state law combined with reductions caused by inflationary forces resultant from federal policies affecting most large American Cities since WWII . Today there are growing pains with visions being created for NDG redevelopment instead giving people hope when promises made 10 years ago seem impossible only 2 decades later

Roosevelt visited National City and dedicated new federal buildings including the White House complex (then known as the Executive Office Building) on Redlands Boulevard near campus; this event marked Roosevelt's first visit to Los Angeles since he becoming president less than two years earlier. In 1936, when Proposition 8 passed during the California gubernatorial election campaign and banned same-sex marriage statewide, National City responded with an unofficial "No On 8" rally attended by many hundred people who gathered outside the county courthouse on Eveline Street also called "No On 8." A few days later, however,, national media picked up on these protests as they progressed inside courthouse doors; eventually all charges against participants were dropped after public outcry led to intervention from then Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who convinced Governor Jerry Brown to veto Proposition 8
