In 1902, National City residents voted to move from their original town site to what is now downtown National City because of concerns about water availability and railroad traffic on then-state Route 66 (now Interstate 10). The new city was incorporated on January 13, 1907. In 1917–18 during World War I, American troops built Fort Rosecrans near present-day Pasadena for storage and artillery training purposes; however the fort never saw combat and it was abandoned soon afterwards. On October 15, 1929 Philippine President Manuel Quezonlipa signed Executive Order No. 2245 declaring martial law in San Bernardino County until further notice due to riots that had breakout among Filipino workers living in Orange County at that time; this order led to violence between Filipinos and American military personnel which culminated with the death of two Americans servicemen on November 9th near what is now known as Westchester Drive in Newport Beach. The exact cause of those killings remains unknown; however local officials cited poor leadership by Quezonlipa as being responsible for much of the rioting that took place later that day across Southern California's major cities including Los Angeles and Pasadena.. On December 3rd 1929 an Act was passed by Congress creating Federal Land Commission which would manage all public land within Mexican territory north of Baja California coastal waters beginning with what are now Huntington Beach Peninsula (including most areas around Santa Ana), La Jolla (Garden Grove), Irvine Spectrum Center (Apoima/Pasadena) and portions of Seal Beach southward to Vandenberg AFB Naval Air Station just outside Laguna Niguel proper where thousands upon thousands more Japanese Americans were incarcerated before being deported back into Japan during World War II.. This created a unique situation where many individuals who lived or worked within Mexican territory but were not subject to US jurisdiction could be charged with crimes based on their activities within that territory regardless if they were actually inside Mexico or not... prior to 1935 all such charges were adjudicated by a U visas officer stationed at El Paso who would issue a finding letter without looking at any evidence

On May 1st 1994 voters passed Proposition 226 which granted voting rights to all citizens regardless of citizenship status or residency within county boundaries
National City was founded on September 17, 1846 by James S. Polk as a town in San Luis Obispo County, California. The name "National City" is from the Spanish word for "national territory." The city's first post office was opened in October of that year. It was moved to its current location on June 25, 1852. National City became an incorporated city on February 25, 1897. On November 16, 1911, the San Francisco Earthquake hit and destroyed much of downtown San Francisco; National City continued to function largely unaffected because it consisted of small wooden buildings built before the quake. The only damage done to National City was some loss of property value from collapsed structures. Two years after the earthquake occurred, $2 million had been invested in rebuilding downtown San Francisco and creating new downtown areas such as North Beach and Financial District. At one point during World War II, National City served as the home port for USS Hornet (CV-8) aircraft carrier operations out of Treasure Island Naval Air Station. During this time many famous people lived or worked there including United States Vice President Richard Nixon and actor Neil Patrick Harris
