Murrieta, California is home to many optical accessory businesses. Some of the oldest in the town are The Optical Shop and Supply Company and The Camera Merchant. These businesses have been in business for over sixty years. In addition to providing optical equipment, these stores also sell photography supplies, camera lenses, and other photography items. The Optical Shop and Supply Company was founded in 1923 by two men who were looking for a place to buy optical supplies. They found their niche in selling photographic equipment because it was then very new and relatively unknown to the public. The Camera Merchant was founded in 1935 by Harry Laughlin and his brother-in-law Herb Snyder. Harry Laughlin had started a successful grocery store on East Colfax Avenue in Los Angeles when he decided to open a camera store too. He named his store The Camera Merchants because he wanted people to be able to purchase cameras from him without going into great depth of explanation about how they worked or why they were special. The Store at 5555 Murrieta Rd., which still stands today, is one of the most significant historical sites associated with optical accessory businesses in Murrieta. It first opened its doors on October 17, 1960 as The Optical Shop & Supply Co.. At that time, it was one of the first such businesses to open its doors within North County Mall (later known as Riverside Mall). Today it continues to serve as an important part of the community with its large inventory of optic equipment and its focus on customer service. Another significant history marker associated with this town is undoubtedly Roy Lichtenstein’s visit there during his “Retrospective America” exhibition at UCLA campus in 1967-1968! Lichtenstein spent several days working at The Optical Shop & Supply Co., taking pictures that would be used as prints for his retrospective exhibitions later that year at UCLA! This event is consideredto be one of the most seminal moments for visual art in Murrieta - precursor[s] perhaps even [of] what we know today as contemporary American art?

In 1949, the district was absorbed by nearby city of Murrieta and has continued to grow ever since. Additionally, it is home to two large science fiction movie theaters - The Regal and The Galaxy - as well as several other retail outlets.

By 1925, the population had increased to over one hundred people thanks to the arrival of workers from Southern California who were building new highways. In 1964, Murrieta joined forces with neighboring Irvine to form the City of Irvine which has continued to grow since then. With a population over two million today, Irvine continues to be one of America's most populous cities while also being home to many popular businesses including Disneyland and Honda Sportsworld

Murrieta is a small city in the western San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of Murrieta Canyon, about 15 miles (24 km) east of downtown Los Angeles and 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Menlo Park. The population was 26,088 at the 2010 census. The City of Murrieta was founded in 1907 by American ranchers George Waddell and Myron Berry as a small farming community near what is now Interstate 5 and State Route 91. A post office was established at Murrieta in 1909, and the first store opened in 1912. The town quickly grew to become one of southern California's most significant agricultural communities with a large stockyards, two cotton mills, two lime kilns, three churches and numerous other businesses. By 1930, it had reached its peak population with over 50 residents; however, during World War II the population decreased as Murrieta served as an airfield for the United StatesAAF until 1945. In 1957 it became part of the newly created City of South Gate; however this merger also failed to create any real growth or change within the city limits. In 1986 it reverted back to its original name after both cities merged again into one municipal entity under South Gate's jurisdiction - becoming one side effect from decades of planning by then-mayor Donny Hathaway and his predecessor Mayor Charles Curtain. The current mayor is Leticia Guerra-Hathaway who took office on December 1st 2017 after being elected unopposed in November 2017 following term that saw little progress made on issues such as crime or infrastructure despite predictions from many observers that she would be successful given her experience working within local government circles dating back to her time as Deputy Mayor for Planning & Development for Downey Village – home to LAX & USC prior to becoming mayoralty runner up in 2016).
