Gun barrels have been a part of Californian history for over 350 years. The first firearms were made in California and they used smoothbore guns which required a muzzle brake to prevent the barrel from spinning too quickly. After the war ended (1848), Jackson decided to sell his assets back to England which included his artillery company. However, British interest in weapons manufacturers led them to purchase many ofJackson's patents throughout California beginning around 1850s including those for rifled barrels and muzzle brakes etc., so these innovations spread throughout British America as well. In 1859 Governor John Cranch tried unsuccessfully to ban importation of all firearms by all Americans without special license due primarily to fears that this would lead to open rebellion by arms dealers across America if this prohibition were successful

The town was originally named "Pueblo de la Sagrada Familia" (the Sacred Family Village). It was renamed after Juan Bautista Murrieta, a landowner who donated land for the settlement. In 1912 the name change to "Murrieta". The post office opened in 1915 and closed in 1960. The first store in Murrieta opened its doors on Pioneer Street in 1907. A millinery shop followed soon afterwards and a grocery store opened later that year with Juana Guerrero as owner/manager. Other businesses include an auto dealership and two shoe stores before 1978 when it became a barrio (neighborhood) center with three cinemas, several restaurants and 12 stores including one independent bookstore until it closed during the early 2000s due to financial troubles. In 1978–1979 Murrieta's first soccer team played against La Salle University at County Stadium which is now known as Pajaro Valley High School Field #1 due to sponsorship by PepsiCo which renovated the field between 2009-2013 according to their vision for "A beautiful open space that inspires physical activity through sport."

The town of Murrieta was founded in 1876 by Mexican Americans. In 1907, the town became a census-designated place. The population of Murrieta increased from 2,711 in 1910 to over 21,000 by 2000.
