When the Panama-Pacific International Exposition took place in 1915 at nearby Oracle Park (now part of Stanford University), Mountain View became an urban center with over 100 businesses located on Nob Street between First and Second Avenues (now known as Middlefield Avenue). From 1915 until the 1970s, most of the economic activity in Mountain View was centered around Sun Microsystems which operated out of One Shields Place until 1974 when it moved into its current building on Addison Street across from Googleplex
