In 1928, somebody purchase a handgun called the “Patriots Revolver” from Edward Smeaton and put it into service with law enforcement agencies around California including San Francisco Police Department, Oakland Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Later that year Milt Mayo (the owner of what is now referred to as "Mayo Arms") decided to make some changes to their handgun company name so they changed their name to "Mountain Gun" Following Milt Mayo's death in 1957, ownership passed through his son Harry Mayo Jr., grandson Harry Mayo III & finally Harry Mayo IV who continued making changes & improvements including adding an automatic safety system (which is still present today) until 1984 when they handed over ownership permanently to The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).Since then NSSF has been maintaining & operating this museum located within walking distance of every major city in America – helping shooters preservation their firearm legacy
