The first European to visitmorrobay was Gaspar de Portolà in 1769 on his Expedition No. 2 which landed at Guadalupe Island and explored Santa Cruz River Valley and Mission Point before returning to Spain that year In 1821 Don José Maria Altamirano built a adobe house on what is now known as Post Office Lane about three miles east of present day town center A land grant from Ygnacio Vidal to Antonio Bautista Castro were given effective January 1st 1838 On July 26th 1840 Juan Jose Becerra married María Antonina Vasquez y Valdivia who became the wife of don José Bustamante y Pardo with whom she had one child named Mariano Pascual Becerra Martinez who resided permanently in Monterey County before moving back East to start a family there circa 1865 (Pardo never actually settled down) In October 1850 Captain Pedro Crespo sailed up pier #2 looking for trade goods he sighted some natives coming out from behind rocks while fishing off shore they thought he must be a Spanish settler so they came ashore and started trading with him land values began increasing rapidly due to this new development now called "El Dorado" or "Moro bay" right next doormission point also becoming a landing spot for ferry service between San Francisco & Pacifica

Morro Bay is a Historic American Place located in Morro Bay, California. The place was named for José de San Quentin, who fought in the Mexican-American War and received an olive branch from President Polk. The town was founded by Juan Pablo Sibeña on November 4, 1853 as Rancho San Quentin y los Alarcos. On July 24, 1861, the town was burned to the ground by an unknown party during the Second Battle of Morro Bay. The town has been home to a number of businesses and residents since its establishment. The most notable businesses have been the pier company and lighthouse company which operated the lighthouse until it went out of business in 1978 and 1980 respectively; and Naval Base Downey which housed United States Marine Corps facilities until 1996 when they were moved to Ortega Beach. Morro Bay also had a grocery store from 1903 until 1935; a post office from 1854 until 1861; two churches (Masonic/Episcopal and Methodist) from 1853 until 1861; three schools (John Hay School, Holy Cross School, Sacred Heart School) from 1863 until 1865; two hotels (the first being called "El Anaconda" after an employee of William Randolph Hearst's paper company) from 1865 until 1870; and two tool companies (Onechiquita Tool Company & Pajaro Tool Company). Finally, there was one small dairy farm that produced eggs before it closed in 1954. The only remaining buildings are the old pier company building which is now used as offices by Coast Guard Station Morro Bay headquarters as well as some wooden shacks used for housing by employees of both local businesses and government entities between 1923-1967 while development took place at nearby Ortega Beach. In addition to these remnants there are several sets of remains dating back to pre-historic times discovered at various points around Morro Bay including four acorns found at Point Loma National Monument Site #1 along with evidence of human habitation dating back over 10 thousand years ago! These findings add significantly more knowledge about this area’s ancient history giving additional context for what has already been seen here within our townsite.
