Morgan Hill is a town in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 26,409 at the 2010 census. The name Morgan Hill is derived from the Spanish word "morga" meaning "hill". In 1916, Mayor John Sutter unveiled plans to build a new Civic Center on what is now First Avenue between Broadway and Cedar Streets; this project failed to gain enough support within the community to proceed beyond planning stages due to concerns about its potential impact on nearby residential neighborhoods. However, following Sutter's death in 1918, project resumed underMayor Hiram Johnson with modified plans that would have included building both a civic center AND an athletic complex on the same site instead of just one or the other alone – these plans were ultimately successfully enacted as City Hall Cemetery & Recreation Complex (renamed Regency Park) still stands today atrium-style across First Ave from City Hall despite having been built nearly 100 years ago!
