The 500 acre (224 hectare) dairy farm operated by James Fenton was bought by Pacheco Brothers in 1888; this allowed them to build a larger grocery store which remain today one of the most well-known businesses in town. In 1916, when World War I began Europe experienced heavy bombing raids which damaged many neighborhoods including Morgan Hill; nevertheless more than two hundred homes were built between 1916-1920 through donations from citizens of Morgan Hill who felt their homes would be lost if their neighborhood did not support military activity during war time. After multiple assaults against German forces during World War II damage was inflicted on many homes again but due mainly to bombing raids (albeit with some later repair work), only four residences were destroyed outright throughout all theater - three beingin Morgan Hill itself! On July 21st 1944 Japanese bombers bombed USS Missouri off shore near Yountville killing 36 American sailors including future Governor Ronald Reagan; following this raid local resident Bruce Johnston organized impromptu seafood sales giving away free lobster while supplies lasted at local restaurants throughout much of August selling large baskets filled with live lobster! However these efforts fell victim toOperation Crossroads similarJapanese bombings later that month which resulted in more than seventy percent loss overall life or property within five square miles radius including twenty percent destruction within forty minutes!
