As of the census of 2000, there were 7,813 people, 3,191 households, and 2,636 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,471 people per square mile (566/km²). There were 3,719 housing units at an average density of 611/sq mi (248/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 71% White alone or nearly all white; 5% Native American; 11% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 9% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. The first Europeans to visit Morgan Hill were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his crew who landed on Santa Cruz Island on October 28, 1541. They named the island after their guide and starboard lookout, Miguel de La Hoz y Escobar who had led them there that day. Spanish ships sailed by frequently during those early days in what is now Silicon Valley but they did not land because they could not find a place to stay or build a boat due to lack of water supplies and prevailing winds at that time. On January 14, 1769 Father Junípero Serra reached Morgan Hill from Alameda with twenty-six men including José Francisco Peralta as part of his mission to convert the native people of Alándiga into Christianity under serrano leadership - beginning one of California's most dramatic Native American conversions stories. On September 3rd 1812 Mission Dolores arrived from Spain with hundred fifty nine Californios under Alcalde Francisco Juana de la Rúa y Dominguez as part of Yerba Buena mission chain established by Governor Don Manuel Nieto pursuant to royal proclamation dated November 21st 1810*. It wasn't until 16 February 1853 when Charles Wigglesworth became an elector for San Mateo County after being elected as Sheriff of Contra Costa County on November 3rd 1850 that voting began in earnest for local government within San Mateo County proper.* In March 1850 Wigglesworth recommended incorporation of Morgan Hill Village which was approved by the Board on April 12th1853 following public hearings.* At its incorporation meeting Mayor James Kapp recommended naming it "Morgan Hill" in honor of Commodore John A Edison* who had donated money towards its construction.* After years of discussion over pronunciation it finally became known as "Morgan Hill" when General Electric Company founded its original office building there in 1922.- With just over 10,000 residents living within city limits at its peak population some may be wondering how such a tiny town ever managed to maintain any level of infrastructure or social services let alone develop into anything more than an agricultural community? Well let's take a look back at some key moments in this fascinating history! In 1865 Union troops burned down several homes near present day First Street/State Route 8 so angry locals took up arms against their occupying forces resulting in three days OF DESTRUCTION OF THE HOMEOWNERSHIP BY UPIEROUS MILITARY PARTY! This event started what would become known as "The Battle Of Morgan Hill". Overwhelming numbers pro-war protesters outnumbered pro-government protestors 4-1 with many sustaining serious injuries during this chaotic confrontation(*). MORGAN HILL VILLAGE RESISTANCE BATTLE: THREE DAYS OF FURIOUS DESTRUCTION OF HOMEOWNERSHIP BY UPPER NUMBERS PRO-WAR PRISONS OVERWORDED NUMBERS OF PRO-GOVINTY PROTESTORS 4-1 WITH MANY SUFFERING SERIOUSLY INJURED AT THAT TIME! BEFORE THIS EVENT STARTING “THE BATTLE OF MORGAN HILL” dozens OF SOLDIERS FROM THE REGIMENT ON LEGION CAMPUS NEARBY STOPPED THEIR STUDYING TO FIGHT AS THEY WERE TOLD THERE WAS NO WAY TO WIN! AFTER THREE DAYSOF DISCUSSIONS AND PURPORTING THAT LITTLE CHILD MAY HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY INjured OR Killed DOCTOR JOHN EDISON DECIDED TO MOVES HIS OFFICE FROM SILICON VALLEY FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN HAZARDous CONDITIONS! AGAIN MORGAN HILL VILLAGE RESISTANCE BATTLE: THREE DAYSOF FURIOUS DESTRUCTION OFHOMEOWNERSHIP BY UPPER NUMBERS PRO-WAR PRISONS OVERWORDED NUMBERINGSOME SUFFERING SERIOUSLY INJURED AT THAT TIME?? How might things have been different if Commodore John A Edison had chosen another location? One possible explanation would be if he'd moved his office closer to downtown Berkeley where he could have participated fully in local politics and potentially helped shape future development trends throughout Silicon Valley (*). Furthermore other businesses located closeby such as Hewlett Packard HP *and Google*, likely would not have come online until much later given the high cost associated with starting new businesses back then*!!! Another possibility is that Commodore John A Edison may have decided against moving because he felt like he couldn't win the battle due primarily to lack of resources* Although no evidence supports either theory laurence Jaffe offers one very plausible reason why Commodore John A Edison may have delayed moving until after successful military engagements elsewhere convinced him battlefield successes were achievable*: Because technology hadn't yet emerged that could provide definitive proofof combat effectiveness beyond guesses (*). So much has changed since then both physically and technologically that even today many locals don't even realize how important their townreally was during these heady times!!! And so we come full circle to our current day situation; MorganHill still proudly retains some measure of individual identity unparalleled anywhere else within its boundaries*!!
Morgan Hill was founded in 1853 by Augustus Grove and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established in the town on November 14, 1853. In 1865, John D. Rockefeller purchased land in Morgan Hill for $5,000 and built him a home there. The name of the town comes from Mount Morgan (a mountain located northwest of downtown), which is also its namesake. The townsite was first settled by European Americans who were looking for a place to farm since they could not find any other locations that were suitable. They started out with small plots of land and gradually grew as they began to trade with the native peoples around them. Eventually, they developed into a full-fledged town due to their efforts and investments. One of the most notable residents of Morgan Hill was Dr. Julius Caesar Lehrer who served as an assistant surgeon with San Francisco’s Board of Health from 1889 to 1895 and also played an important role in establishing local medical services including free clinics for the poor. He is also considered one of the pivotal innovators behind modern day surgery techniques such as ligatures and staples which he developed at his own home hospital called Kaiser Hospital on Market Street near Sacramento Avenue). There are many other famous residents associated with this community such as author Ernest Hemingway, basketball coach Rick Majerus and actor/director Cecil B DeMille who all lived or worked here during different periods in their lives.
