In the early 1800s, Morgan Hill was a small farming community in San Francisco County. It was located on the edge of San Francisco and it consisted of about 60 households. The population of Morgan Hill decreased after gold was discovered at Sutro Mines in 1848. However, the town continued to thrive because of its agricultural production. In 1865, there were only 10 households in Morgan Hill and by 1870, the population had decreased to just 15 people. However, due to increased trade with China and other parts of Asia, Morgan Hill’s economy grew rapidly during this period. In 1882, there were over 100 households in Morgan Hill and by 1912, the population had reached 300 people. This rapid growth led to an increase in development withinMorgan Hill – such as new homes being built as well as a new courthouse and jail. By 1920, MorganHill had become one of the most important communities in San Francisco County.
Morgan Hill, California is a small city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The population was 58,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Silicon Valley metropolitan area. Morgan Hill is known for its wine production and vineyards, as well as its educational institutions including Stanford University and UC Berkeley. The first Europeans to visit what is now Morgan Hill were members of the Spanish mission Santa Clara de Asís on September 4, 1769. They named it after Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County because they thought it looked like that mountain. Captain British Royal Hydrographic Squadron RN officer George Vancouver passed through this area on his return journey from Mexico City on December 14, 1804 with a party of sailors and explorors looking for a new route to China via Cape Horn. He named the strait Canning Strait after John Cranch Canning who had been captain of HMS Beagle during her voyage from England to South America in 1802-03. The first post office was established at Morgan Hill on July 20, 1853 by Jardine & Co., owners of Rancho San Pablo land east of present-day downtown Morgan Hill In 1860 the town was built up around Fillmore and Masonic Roads when two brothers - Rufus Wimpfenheimer (1814-96) and Lewis Hargrave (1815-88) developed Fillmore Road into one continuous street which led from Masonic Road northwest to where Highway 101 meets Russian Gulch today Wimpfenheimer also developed some large parcels near present day Mountain View Avenue between Fillmore Boulevard and Howland Avenue into what became Palo Alto In 1865 Wimpfenheimer sold another piece of land adjacent to Stanford University property along Menlo Park Boulevard thenceforth called "Stanford Place" Wimpfenheimer died in 1896 having had no children so his sister may have inherited both tracts if not actually given these names . Lewis Hargrave continued developing this land until his death in 1888 . Following Hargrave's death fillmore/stanford place continued undeveloped until 1912 when Drinker, Meyers & Fenton purchased Stanford Place from Lewis Hargrave's widow . In 1916 Drinker, Meyers & Fenton formed "Morgan Hill Development Company" which plotted out an extensive development plan for much of eastern Palo Alto taking advantage of various public donations including over $10 million raised by President Woodrow Wilson during World War I Two years later they sold all their holdings excepting a few hundred acres near Cow Hollow Drive (now Old El Camino Real) to James Webb Hughes Foundation while still retaining full ownership over Menlo Park Blvd land

The history of Morgan Hill, California dates back to the 18th century. The area that is now Morgan Hill was part of Rancho Santa Anita, an agricultural land grant given to Juan Margarita de la Vega in 1795. In 1853, Isabella Maria Childs founded a small community called "El Cajon" on the east side of San Lorenzo Creek. By 1870, over one thousand people lived in El Cajon and it had become a major port for goods coming down the San Andreas Fault. In 1906, the city of Los Angeles was founded and began expanding westward. The city wanted to annex all of what is nowMorgan Hill because they felt it would make more sense to have a central business district and fewer suburban areas. The annexation process proceeded slowly because many residents opposed the idea. After years of fighting, on January 12, 1912 Morgan Hill became one of the first towns in Los Angeles County when it was merged with Hermosa Beach. In recent years, Morgan Hill has undergone several changes due to its location within Los Angeles County and its proximity to Interstate 5 and other roadways. First there were plans for development around Interstate 5 but those plans were scrapped after opposition from local communities. In 2012, a new plan for development called "Pioneer Square" was unveiled which would include office space, housing units, and retail stores near I-5 and State Route 66. However this project also faced opposition from locals who worried about traffic congestion and how it would affect their neighborhoods
Morgan Hill is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Walnut Creek– Dublin Bay Area region. The name Morgan Hill may derive from Spanish "Morgue" meaning "mortuary mound." The first Europeans to arrive in this area were the Mission San Francisco de Asís on Mount Diablo in 1776 and Mission San José at Martinez Lake in 1807. In 1870, John Sutter founded the town of Mountain View on land he had acquired from Rancho Buena Vista Mexican Land grantee Manuel Nieto. In 1871, Sutter named his new town for General United States Grant Morgan (1784-1846), one of his old friends and patrons who had helped him purchase Rancho Buena Vista from Nieto. During World War II, Morgan Hill was home to many Monterey Bay Naval Air Station personnel including Rear Admiral Raymond Ewing (1915-2003). After the war ended, people returned to their homes and businesses but development continued until the early 1970s when it decreased due to low oil prices.
