In 1887, John Browning submitted his design for a new shotgun caliber called the “Browning Automatic Rifle.” The rifle was based on the concept of an open-bolt action that allowed rapid fire. The automatic feature of the gun made it easy to operate and caused only minimal recoil when fired. After World War I, interest in firearms waned and production ceased at Colt Firearms Company; however, variations on the Automatics continued to be manufactured by other companies until they were finally discontinued in 1958.

The community rapidly grew, becoming one of the most important cities in Silicon Valley. In 1915, Mayor George Earle helped bring electricity to town and built the first municipally-owned watertower. By 1925, Morgan Hill had become one of California's most prosperous municipalities, boasting a population of over 2500 people. However, during World War II (1939-1945), things changed drastically for Morgan Hill. After being bombed repeatedly by American planes during the war, many homes were destroyed or damaged as a result.Mayor Earle soon realized that his city needed more help than just money from developers - he needed help from the military to rebuild! He approached General Douglas MacArthur and asked him to take over efforts to repair housing damage done by American bombers; after all, MacArthur was then head of Allied Forces Europe responsible for rebuilding war-torn Germany and Austria into democracies postwar. With so much at stake for Morgan Hill - its economy included - MacArthur agreed to help out. And so began one of America's most famous " Builder Blunders", as City Hall quickly erected new blocks of flats without bothering to check whether these structures were safe or not! This does not even include the numerous sports stadiums and other buildings constructed without proper planning or permits during this time: One such building is now used as part of Googleplex Campus! Morgan Hill continued its rapid growth through the 1960s and 1970s; however, it did experience some turbulence during this time period. For example, local businessman Bob Hope bought land adjacent to downtown MorganHill in 1967 intending to build an amusement park called "Hollywood Hills". However due largely to environmental concerns raised by nearby residents (including then mayor Gordon Boulding), Hope instead built what is now known as North Capitol Mall instead (now home to Macy's). Nevertheless, due in part TO these experiences (and also because so many people had left town after years of strong economic growth) Mayor Earle announced plans in 1977 legislative Agenda No 2B recommends rezoning portions northward along Middlefield Street towards undeveloped lands where winegrowing could be conducted if approved by voters at a future election). This action would eventually lead up Housing Authority purchase (in 1978) within South Park Blocks which became today's core business district located adjacent Ivar’s restaurant/clubbing complex
