The city was named for Major General Philip H. Sheridan, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a United States Senator from California. In 1933, the city formed an Air Gun Club and began publishing an annual magazine called "The Rifleman." In 1938, Captain John Larkin became president of the Morgan Hill Air Gun Club and began developing a system for manufacturing airguns using plastic injection molding techniques. The Larkin Air Gun System became America's first commercially successful airgun manufacturing process. From 1941 to 1945, Captain Larkin served as vice president of American Ammunition Corporation (AAC) which manufactured and marketed many types of firearms including airguns. AAC also developed the first self-loading shotgun in America. In 1945, Captain Larkin retired from his professional career and died at age 74 years old. After Captain Larkin's death, his son John T., Jr., continued father's work at AAC until its merger with Remington Arms Company in 1993 to form Remington & Company Incorporated (R&C). After R&C merged with Brownells Incorporated (BWR), John T., Jr.'s son Jeffery took over management of AAC until its sale to Smith & Wesson Corporation in 2000.
Morgan Hill is a small town located in the Central Valley of California, about an hour's drive from Los Angeles. The town was founded in 1849 by Capt. Nathaniel Purdy and his wife Nancy as a result of the Gold Rush. It became a mining center during the 1860s and 1870s, with gold being discovered at nearby Butte and Sutter Counties. By 1881, Morgan Hill had become a thriving community with over 1,000 residents. However, it would be until after World War II that Morgan Hill would truly come to prominence as a self-reliant community committed to its values of hard work, community service, and creativity. In 1951, local businessman Clyde King donated land to create the city of Morgan Hill on which the current population stands today. The city has since grown rapidly due to its diverse cultural attractions - from its vibrant art scene to its popular nightlife - making it one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations. Today, Morgan Hill is known for its creative arts scenes including music/theatre production companies such as Sony Pictures Television Productions and Pacific Arts Theatre Company; visual artists such as Jay Lynch and Lynda Obst; environmentalists including Bobbi Kristina Brown;[1]and entrepreneurs like Rick Riordan.[2] The town also enjoys unique features such as its own water system (powered by solar power) and (for those who want it) stunning views from many of its neighborhoods including Park Street Heights,[3] Gables Place,[4], Andalusia Heights,[5],[6] Noblesvillette,[7],[8][9],[10] North Coast Hills,[11],[12], West Side Oaks,[13][14]} The history of Morgan Hill can be traced back almost 350 years when Captain Nathaniel Purdy arrived in what is now central valley with his woman servant Nancy in 1849 seeking fortune for their new settlement site on Dry Creek Road just north of present day Highway 101’s intersection with State Route 52.[15][16][17] At first they named their new town San Francisco but soon realized that this would not do because there were no rivers flowing through their territory so they changed it back to Morgan Hill after hearing about an oak tree in Santa Clara County whose fruit could make wine. Captain Purdy then built some houses out on what are now Main Street and Green Street near where he had caught some fish while hunting game along Dry Creek Road early one morning in March 1850[18]. Over time People started moving into this area which was originally just open Rancho Rincon de la Sallee part way down Dry Creek Road east ofpresent day Union City limits although San Francisco probably began taking root here sometime before late May 1850 when Captain Purdy married Mrs Elizabeth Smith[19]. San Francisco eventually reached southward past present day Bakersfield limits towards Stockton whereupon trading post or Mission Bay foggy days increased Navigation needed so early Californians established adobe huts inland somewhere between Ranchero foothills east northeastof downtown Stockton smoky air all week long potable water available near Mission Bay Without proper deep well technology these places never really grew till we developed fracking oil & gas reservoirsmany tears shed over lost opportunities during last 45 yrs

The town founders were largely self-reliant and relied upon agriculture for their livelihoods as well as local fishing and hunting opportunities that could be enjoyed without leaving their homes or traveling great distances into other valleys or townships. This type of lifestyle continued until World War II when transportation became available to bring more people into the area for work during wartime times which led to increased demand for goods produced outside of town limits such as meat, vegetables, clothing, housing materials etcetera which resulted in either job loss or closed stores over time In spite of this negative experience during World War II where much commercial activity left town limits due to war shortages, many residents decided that incorporation would provide them with better services including fire protection (which did not exist at that time), police service (which did not exist), public education (which did not exist) among other amenities offered by incorporation The current incarnation of Morgan Hill began slowly developing beginning with several modest purchases made by its founders over time culminating with purchase of $2 million from the Stateof California developers fund on January 5th 1990 which created new streetscape features along Avenida de San Francisco Boulevard making it one stop shopping center complete with modern conveniences like restaurants/bars/stores/cafes etcetera On October 25th 1998 local voters passed Measure FJN-002 increasing taxes approved by referendum 2:1 resulting in an increase totaling $9 million annually towards infrastructure improvements such as new schools, libraries and more streetlights while also benefiting businesses within walking distance including restaurants/bars/stores etcetera Today Morgan Hill stands proud as one of America’s most vibrant communities boasting thriving businesses along Avenida de San Francisco Boulevard filled with modern conveniences providing excellent access to all that Silicon Valley has to offer while still maintaining its historical values
