Moreno Valley, California is a city located in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Moreno Valley is bordered by Loma Linda to the east, Cathedral City to the south, and Ontario to the west. The population of Moreno Valley was 44,595 as of 2018. The city was founded in 1912 and has since grown into one of Southern California's most populous communities. The name "Moreno Valley" comes from Mexican rancher Manuel Moreno who settled here in 1887. He named his agricultural land after his father-in-law José María Moreno y Zúñiga, who had come from Río Grande de la Plata Province in southern Argentina. Spanish explorers also visited this area during this time period and discovered what would become Moreno Valley on October 15, 1769 when Juan Bautista de Anza surveyed Rancho San Francisco de las Palomas northwest of present day Goleta Mesa. This grant included an area that extended down to modernday Imperial Beach and included parts of today's Hermosa Beach and Torrance counties as well as portions of Orange County. In 1912, American entrepreneur John Smeaton bought part of Rancho Santa Margarita which he divided between himself and two other investors: Harry Chandler (the brother-in-law of movie star Norma Shearer) and Edwin Starr (husband of actress Rita Hayworth). With Smeaton's death in 1913, control over the ranch passed hands until it was acquired by Henry Kaiser for $12 million in 1944. Kaiser created subdivisions within the valley including Simi Hills (later Simi Town), Carpinteria (now Carpinteria Harbor), La Habra Heights (now La Habra), Miramar Heights (later Miramar), Encino Village (nowEncino), Northridge Village (now Northridge), Claremont Village (now Claremont), Menifee Village (now Menifee Lakeshore) and Agoura Hills neighborhoods including Beverly Hills Boulevard & Western Avenue northward past Century City until finally reaching its current boundaries with Loma Linda Municipality on January 1st 1957. Today much or all that remained under Kaiser's jurisdiction continues as part of West Covina Unified School District #1 - one half mile east along LA 405 from downtown Los Angeles

Pee Wee Kapp took over as manager on December 5th, 1916 when George Fenton died suddenly from wounds received during World War I; he had been vice president of the company’s board of directors since 1903. The following year local businessman Waddell Gorman bought shares from Jensen and changed the name of the company from Standard Copper Mines Company (now known as Canada Mining) to Anglo American Corporation (later Anaconda Copper Inc.). At first there were only a few employees at Pee Wee Kapp’s millinery shop; but soon other companies began investing money here too and production increased rapidly. During World War I mining operations produced more than 1 million tons of copper ore which helped turn around Allied war effort financially; however many workers lost their lives due to accidents or disease while working underground or on surface minesitions such as El Centro Mine & Mill No 4 where fatalities reached 85%.
