Mexican land grants were given to Anglo settlers in 1847 by Governor Monterey Bayón as part of his effort to secure statehood for Mexico during the Mexican-American War; these grants included Rancho Yorba Linda which became part of Rancho La Brea after it was sold to Juana Mendez Chavez y Pacheco in 1853. From 1860 until his death in 1907, Menard served as mayor of Irvine and treasurer of Orange County before he turned his attention full time to business interests in Moreno Valley where he built a mansion known today as Menard Hall (now used as an office building). In 1902, following annexation by Anaheim into Anaheim County, voters passed an ordinance establishing a city government within the boundaries established when Irvine became an unincorporated community outside Of Anaheim proper. Grants-in-aid were received from various county agencies which created parks, housing developments and other public works projects within the walls of what would become Moreno Valley during this time period including: City Park (1911), Chino Hills Golf Course (1920), Westwood Village (1927), Newport Beach Playground (1929), Northridge Open Space (1945) etc.. During World War II much activity took place within Doheny Heights – home to many aircraft manufacturing plants – because it was considered an important transportation corridor for essential supplies moving up and down valleys throughout Southern California necessary for war production across all sectors not just military aviation like tanks or planes but leather goods or munitions too! Aircraft manufacturers like Douglas Aircraft Company produced hundreds of bombers/aircraft parts right here near Doheny Heights making it possible for people all over Southern California to get their hands on these key components needed for war effort! After Pearl Harbor Japanese Americans had their homes deprived them of their civil rights so they packed up their families and left town overnight never to return… yet here we are still living proudly today enjoying our qualityof life while others are struggling mightily just beyond our door!!!
