Moraga is a town located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 11,425 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest community in Santa Cruz County after Moraga Heights. The area around what is now Moraga was inhabited by the Chumash people for over 10,000 years before they were displaced by the Spanish in 1776. In 1814, José Arroyo granted land to Juan Bautista de Anza for his Rancho San Lorenzo. The first European to visit what is now Moraga was Jedediah Sutter on his trip from Sacramento to Monterey Bay in 1846. In 1868, Moraga became part of the United States when it was acquired by California as part of the Mexican War Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. during this time there were many small towns and villages scattered throughout central and southern California; few if any remained after annexation into America. The post office at Moraga was established on March 1st, 1872, under act of Congress entitled "An Act To create a postoffice at Moraga". The name change came about due to an error caused when another post office called "Newbury" was renamed "Norwalk" after Norwalk, Connecticut's first city Hall which had been built that year by Jonathan Edwards and others as part of a larger effort to improve transportation between Hartford and New York City through an improved road system. Sutter's Fort Adobe near present day downtown Moraga had been built about two miles eastward from where Wimpole Street crosses Highway 101 just north of modern day Sunnyside Avenue in 1847 as part of Operation Crossroads which struck out from Sacramento across Sonoma County towards Placerville; soon thereafter known as Wimpole's Fort because General James Wimpole led the expedition that discovered it while wandering around northern Sonoma County looking for new gold fields (). After Sutter's Fort Adobe fell into disrepair following its capture by local Native Americans in 1848 following their uprising against Mission San Francisco Barrios' occupation (the fort served as a basecamp during their leader Francisco Alvarado's frequent raids into Napa Valley), American soldiers began occupying it beginning on October 15th,1849; American troops left shortly afterwards with no formal ceremony taking place due to then-President Polk refusing approval for such an event given Mexico's claim on California under Article VII of US Constitution (& Coahuila y Tejas). While most American military installations closed down throughout California during this period including Headquarters Army Corps Forces Far East District headquartered at Yreka south of Redding due to budgetary shortfalls – Headquarters Army Corps Forces Far East District instead reopened at Los Angeles Gate near downtown Lompoc on April 24th 1850 – HeadquartersArmy Corps Forces Far East District remained inactive at Yreka until May 8th 1870 when Commanding General John Cushing ordered Major General George Armstrong Custer responsible for moving all army forces westward pursuant to orders issued from Santiago Vergara regarding Mexican attempts within our borders TO INVADE CALIFORNIA! Armistice negotiations eventually ledto Ulysses S Grant’s decision not allow Mexican forces within 50 miles OF THE UNITED STATES NEW MEXICO DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES ON OCTOBER 21ST 1865…..Since then HeadquartersArmy Corps Forces Far East District has resided adjacent to headquarters USAFFED (UCLA) right next door inside current day UCLA campus limits……Today moragacity has more than 11K residents with 3 school districts….Moragacity is bordered by Santa Cruz county line along its eastern border and Half Moon Bayoualong its western border…Morganity lies entirely within college boundaries......... Moraga is a small town in rural Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. Moraga is located on the banks of the Moraga River and is north of Walnut Creek. The town was founded in 1847 by John Cranch and his wife Anna Maria Cranch as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Stockton to Sacramento. In 1850, Anna Maria's brother-in-law, General Mills, donated land for the town center and for schools. In 1860, Moraga became an independent township with a board of trustees. The first post office was established in 1862. The first mayor was Harvey Halsey who served until 1871 when he was replaced by Elisha Cooksey. In 1892, the railroad arrived in Moraga and began construction of its main line through the community which opened in 1893. By 1899, there were six businesses in Moraga with one hundred residents living within walking distance of each other norms). Asmora had also become an agricultural center due to annexation by Moraga Township during that time period In 1916/17 World War I service members from nearby Danville volunteered for duty in Europe (the largest volunteer force ever fielded by any U S city or village) and many local citizens followed suit thereafter During World War II (1939–1945), many people worked at various munitions plants near Orinda; but most locals avoided joining either side because they believed that it would not be necessary to fight Because of this neutrality policy many people here remained unaware until after 1945 what had happened over there Asmora experienced rapid growth following World War II as more people came here to work than ever before The postwar boom ended when factory jobs moved away while highunciations prices led to increased poverty among those left behind Starting around 1970 things started looking up again as new industries such as auto parts manufacturing arrived; however this has slowly tapered off recently With unemployment rates now above 10% it has been difficult for young adults to find good paying jobs Russels Rd between 9th Ave/Bodega Blvd & 3rd St - currently closed to all traffic
Moraga, California was first settled in 1849 by the Moragas. The Moragas were the first all-white community in what is now Northern California. In 1851, they built a cabin on the east side of Moraga Creek. They named their community after Maria Hidalgo Bancroft, who had been killed during the Mexican-American War.The first post office was established in 1852 and was called Hacienda de los Arroyos. In 1861, when California became a state, Moraga became part of San Francisco County. The population of Moraga fluctuated over time because it was not always easy to get land for farming or ranching. In 1915, the Moraga Farmers Union formed to help farmers buy land and improve their businesses. In 1922, there were only five homes left in the town and it began to decline until it ceased operation in 1969 due to lack of tourists and investment
