In 1907, Moraga became an incorporated town with a population of about 175 people. In 1916, it changed its name to Los Angeles after city incorporation into California. In 1923, Moraga residents voted to change their name back to Moraga after popular demand from residents of other nearby towns which had also reverted to their original names following city incorporations within California. The community has kept its name since then and has experienced only modest growth since then despite attempts by local officials to revive development throughout the years.
