Moorpark is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 20,871 at the 2010 census. Moorpark is located in the eastern Mojave Desert and is bordered by Lancaster to the south and east, Blythe to the north, and Victorville to the west. The town was founded in 1911 as a result of an agreement between two oil companies - Imperial Oil Company and John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company - that would allow each company to lease land for drilling operations in the desert region around Palm Springs. The name "Moorpark" was chosen because it resembled "moor", which had been a common name for wells drilled near Palm Springs until then. The first settlers arrived in 1911, but it wasn't until 1916 when development began on what would become Moorpark proper. That year, Charles Waddell purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of scrubby desert land east of Interstate 15 from David Haines who had leased it from Pershing Square Petroleum Corporation. Waddell renamed his property "Moorpark" after his home state of New Mexico where he lived during those years. In 1925, developer Harry Laughlin purchased 1,000 acres (400 hectares) adjacent to Moorpark from Waddell and developed it into one of Southern California's largest citrus towns with over 100 fruit orchards and 10 chicken coupes factories producing chickens for market demand as well as eggs and other poultry products. A year later Laughlin sold his share in the town to Edward Merton who continued developing it into one of Northern California's largest dairy towns with over 150 milk processing plants across six counties producing more than 2 million gallons (10 million liters) of milk per day for local consumption as well as 546 cheese factories manufacturing 7 types of cheese annually for export markets including 130 stores throughout Northern California selling over $2 billion worth of cheese since 1940 alone! In 1970s developers Discretionary Partners bought out most all these investors leaving only Laughlin's old citrus holdings remaining today

Moorpark is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 23,531 at the 2010 census. Moorpark is located on the southern edge of the Inland Empire and is bordered by Riverside to the east, Ontario to the north, and Victorville to the west. It occupies a valley between two mountain ranges which separate it from Riverside and Palm Springs. The first permanent residents of what would become Moorpark were prospectors who discovered gold in 1858. By 1861, there were over 20 families living in three small neighborhoods within present-day Moorpark: North Park (now known as East Los Angeles), South Park (now known as West Los Angeles), and Centennial Heights (now known as Downtown). Rancho La Brea was acquired by George J. Beaumont in 1865 for $10,000USD ($ million current price). Beaumont renamed his new rancho "Moorpark" after his father's estate in England where he had been born. In 1868, an American Express company founded by James Winton built a depot on Mission Boulevard just outside town limits; this became one of America's earliest mail trains covered withuminum plates that still serve as evidence of its service today. The townspeople petitioned county officials to name their newly founded community after John Fenton Copely Jr., president of American Express who had given them support while they fought off an attack by Indians during Gold Rush days; county officials responded with a proposal to name their community "Fenton." However due to objections from some residents – primarily men – who felt women should not hold high office or have control over such affairs, the name was changed back to "Moorparks" after only one year when opposition subsided. During World War II much of Moorpark was burned down because nearby housing developments were used for military barracks; however most buildings survived intact except for some foundations which were destroyed by looters during postwar reconstruction efforts. After the war most businesses closed but some reopened including The Post Office which still operates inside City Hall today (closed during Hurricane Katrina). During these years many ethnic groups came together through social clubs like Kiwanis and Masons - all while trying maintain close ties with their ancestral homes around Britain & Ireland where many members lived until recent times. This type of activity continued right up until 1965 when racially motivated violence broke out near downtown causing $100K worth of damage including destruction of several churches before being quelled by police using teargas canisters without any casualties reported; this event helped form what would eventually become known as 'the quiet era'. In 1966 Mayor Buddy Roemer announced plans for a brand new municipal center adjacent to City Hall that would house both public services such as firefighting and law enforcement along with offices for various civic organizations like schools and libraries; this project finally achieved funding in 1969 when voters passed Measure H providing about $27 million dollars towards its redevelopment statewide including approximately $15 million towards Moorpark specifically . Upon completion development slowly began taking hold with local businesses starting up shop such as Applebee's restaurant opened its doors on July 1st 1970 followed shortly thereafter by numerous other storesocooperatively called The Open House Shopping Center (). Today many locals refer to this period simply as "The Golden Age" due largely to increased accessibility online sources which list more than 100 businesses that opened during that time period alone .. though whether or not these establishments actually reflect actual contemporaneous business practices remains unknown
