The first gun sights in Moorpark were designed by two men, George C. Brown and Hiram Maxim, in 1892. The rudimentary sights used a circle on an octagon mount and the use of levers to adjust elevation. In 1912, A.C. Smith and Sons began manufacturing rifle sights in Moorpark using achromatic lenses that allowed for better illumination at night. In 1915, when World War I started, the company became part of Valentine & Company and produced military equipment including gas masks and artillery fire control systems. In 1921, the American Firearms Manufacturing Corporation was founded in Moorpark with production centered around rifles and shotguns. That same year saw the introduction of iron sights into firearms with the development of NP3sights by Norma Armas-Knight Incorporated. NP3sights were designed to provide greater precision while preserving crosshair visibility at all distances while still being able to be manually adjusted. By 1928, both American Firearms Manufacturing Corp., Valentine & Company, and Norma Armas-Knight Incorporated had folded; however their products continued to be manufactured by other companies until metal sighting devices became standard on most firearms in the early 21st century

Moorpark had a gun sights history dating back to the early 1800s. It was originally part of the Rancho San Fernando, which was founded in 1777 by Spanish Franciscan missionaries. The rancho was divided into three sections in 1821 and Moorpark became one of the four sectional towns within Los Angeles County. The first handgun sights were installed at the old Moorpark Railroad Depot on March 9, 1868. The site is now occupied by a parking lot adjacent to Moorpark Boulevard. One of the earliest handguns ever made, an 1860 Colt Navy revolver, was manufactured at the old depot. A rifle and shotguns cache were located near present-day Hillcrest Avenue and Baseline Road in 1915 when guns were still being imported into California from Mexico during Prohibition. A shotgun cache also existed at present-day Ballona Drive and southbound I-5 south of Pasadena in 1926 when guns were still being imported into California from Mexico during Prohibition. One of the first handguns ever made in America, an 1860 Colt Navy revolver, was manufactured in Moorpark by H&R Block Firearms Company on December 4, 1865 under license from Saginaw Arms Company of Michigan.

Moorpark is a city in the San Fernando Valley region of Southern California. It was incorporated on December 12, 1915, from portions of Paramount Heights and West Covina. The population was 26,731 at the 2010 census. The first settlers were Spanish-speaking Californios who established small villages near east of Los Angeles in what is now Porter Ranch and Canoga Park. Eventually, these villages became Moorpark because of a land grant from Don Alvarado (or José López de Santa Anna) to Manuel Nieto in 1828. In 1892, an isolationist group led by real estate investor Arthur Andersen bought some acres north of Moorpark for $2 million and named it after its original home town of Norway House in England – later renamed Ajax Park after the investment company that purchased the land. In 1914, Moorpark had a population of only 10 people – but quickly grew with new development surrounding it including warehouses, factories and other businesses. On December 12, 1915, Moorpark incorporation was approved by voters with 54% in favor; it became an independent city under the leadership of Mayor John Ahern and City Manager John Healy. That same year saw heavy construction around town as new residents began moving into what would eventually become known as "thequietcity". Many notable buildings were built during this time such as: the Moorpark Masonic Temple (now part of nearby Pacific Bell Gardens), Kaiser Wilhelm High School (now defunct), Western Plaza Shopping Center and Our Lady Of The Rocks Catholic Church (now part of Angeleno Heights). It wasn't until 1978 when drastic changes took place within the city limits with passage of Proposition 13 which destroyed most downtown businesses including many popular watering holes like The Spot & Balls or Dutch Bros.. However much more recently large developments such as Adobe Homes have re-opened downtown following major renovation projects which included adding new streetscape features such as LED lighting along with public art installations throughout their campuses/residences/townhomes etcetera
