Moorpark is a city in Inyo County, California. The population was 21,449 at the 2010 census. Moorpark is located in the southeast corner of Inyo County and is bounded by Owens Valley on the east, Nevada County on the north, Joshua Tree National Park and Mono Lake on the west, and Canoga Park on the south. It lies within boundaries of Mono Lake National Monument. The first European to visit what is now Moorpark was Antonio de Anza who passed through in 1795 during his survey of California. He named it "Moorpark" for Mount Moriah (now part of Yosemite National Park). The town began to be populated shortly thereafter because Rancho Encina had been granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1838. Many people from nearby towns such as Pasadena moved into Moorpark when rancho land became available. By 1890, more than 60% of Moorpark's residents were Mexican American agrarian families who raised livestock or fruit trees; this proportion declined with settlement of other ethnic groups until about 1940 when most Mexicans left for work in southern California. In 1938 AD an oil well was drilled near present day Moorpark by Standard Oil Company under license from Governor George Deukmejian Jr.. The well reached an estimated depth of but failed due to tight shale formations encountered while drilling which led Standard Oil Company to abandon its plans for development in that area and drill a new well much further down which ultimately productive wells were drilled reaching depths exceeding . A small community developed around this new wellhead with stores, restaurants and hotels being built along Hwy 101 before Interstate 5 connected the two parts of town making it effectively one town once again. Today there are few remnants remaining from that original community except for a few homes still standing abandoned next to I-5 off State Route 66 just outside present day downtown MoorPark

In 1919, Moorpark became one of two cities in Southern California to become racially integrated when it joined the City of Industry. In 1969, Moorpark annexed much of neighboring La Crescenta which had been its southernmost suburb for over 30 years. In November1994 a fire destroyed most of the old downtown core and portions of adjacent neighborhoods including many Mexican-American businesses closed until they were rebuilt as mixed-use redevelopment projects called "The Gateway District". Today, Moorpark is home to a diverse population that includes many people from around the United States and Mexico. There are also several dozen professional athletes who call Moorpark their home base or training ground. Additionally, there are numerous cultural attractions within easy reach such as the local art galleries and theaters as well as world-renowned music festivals like Northwest Folk Festival and LA Folk Festival which take place in nearby Arcadia each year.
Moorpark is a city in the Inland Empire of California, United States. Moorpark was founded in 1887 by John Moor and W. H. Ransom as a small agricultural community on the edge of the Mojave Desert. The city's population grew rapidly during the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its location at a major trade route between Southern California and Denver, Colorado. The area now known as Moorpark was originally part of Rancho San Bernardino y Costilla, which was granted to Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1602 by Spanish Governor Felipe de Neve. By 1887, much of what is now downtown Moorpark had been developed as an agricultural center with banana plantations, cattle stations and other businesses located along Pico Boulevard near Second Street.In 1915, after years of effort by Mayor Charles Cramer and City Councilman Edwin Jettema, based on recommendations from an architectural study ordered by then-Governor Woodrow Wilson, Moorpark became one of the first cities in California to be built on a artificial island formed from landfill created through an operation called "The Mound." In 1922–23 construction began on what would become known as "The Island" – later renamed Municipal Park – that would sit atop newly dug Morongo Canyon whereupon vast tracts of open space were created within strollable distance for residents to enjoy without having to go outside or down into the canyon itself. The park quickly became one of Los Angeles' most popular tourist destinations with millions visiting each year until it was destroyed in 1933 by heavy rains following a severe drought conditions that had struck Southern California hard since 1928.During World War II both Naval Air Station North Island (later NAS Miramar) and Consolidated Aircraft Corporation's (CASC) Miramar Field were used for training operations for B-29s flying out of RAF USAAF bases at sea; however these activities ended when Japan entered war against America on December 5, 1941 with initial plans for full-scale air combat involving fighter planes only becoming reality two weeks later when USS Enterprise detachment off Midway discovered Japanese forces approximately 160 miles southeast of Hawaiian Islands seeking to undertake Operation Coral Sea). Although NAS North Island did operate Boeing 707s during this time period their primary use appears to have been providing transient storage facilities for military aircraft type essential for support operations over Iwo Jima during Battle Of Okinawa; furthermore it should be noted that whileMiramar Field served USAF combatants thru 1945 it remained under Japanese control until September 24 halted all offensive action shorty thereafter when they capitulated). Municipal Park reopened in 1947 after being extensively rehabilitated following damage caused by firestorming thirteen months earlier which occurred just prior to American entry into world war II Konrad Adenauer visited Municipal Park on June 14/15 1946 shortly before Germany's surrender allowing immediate access back into town following days long occupationBy 1948 there were more than 1 million people living within 2½ miles radiusof Municipal Park making it one of largest urban areas west OF THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE STATES!
