Moorpark, California is a small town in the foothills of Northern California. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. Moorpark is located in San Joaquin County and is part of the Stockton-San Joaquin metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Moorpark were Native American natives who harvested acorns from trees on the nearby hills. These people called themselves the Ohlone. In 1827, a man by the name of John Sutter discovered gold near present day Moorpark when he came across some quartz rocks while prospecting for land for his new company, Sutter's Land Company. This event led to increased traffic and development around what would become Moorpark as settlers started moving into this area from nearby communities such as Stockton and Fresno. In 1851, two brothers named George and Peter Smith founded a flour mill in what is now downtown Moorpark after finding an underground stream that provided water for their millrace. This was one of the first commercial mills in California with its own power plant and sawmill! The mill continued to be operational until 1903 when it closed due to economic reasons associated with World War I and then reopened as an elementary school in 1924. MoorPark experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations including Fort Ord and Naval Air Station Fairfield which housed numerous RAF planes used during Operation Overlord (the Normandy Invasion). Post-war prosperity brought large-scale housing developments such as Beechcraft Boulevard Homes (1948), Allis Chalmers Homes (1950), Mexico Towers (1952), Pacific Heights (1956) – all built using postwar materials brought over by Interstate 5 through Moorpark – but also left behind businesses like Applebee's restaurant which operated from 1954 until 1984 before being replaced by KFC restaurants; AutoZone; First National Bank; Wells Fargo Bank; Ponderosa Pizza Place; Ford dealership; Chrysler dealership; Elks lodge #1 & #2]; White Sands Missile Range Museum (); Chubb Corporation Building ();[and] much later, Sleepy Hollow Ranch Campground (. . .) This period of growth saw many changes take place within both the town itself as well as its neighboring communities: more than 100 residences were built east of Military Road between 1949 and 1951 while just 10 buildings were constructed west of Military Road between 1956 and 1957;; several churches were built along Westheimer Avenue between 1950 and 1952;; Grandview Elementary School was built on government land adjacent to Navy Annex property separating it from residential areas on Westheimer Avenue;; subdivisions began appearing throughout pattern similar to those seen today with homes scattered throughout relatively unimportant neighborhoods known only vaguely by Residents or visitors affiliated with these particular interests'; access roads necessary for shopping center development became available following purchase or annexation of adjacent properties.: One significant change that emerged during this time period was a shift towards automotive production which led directly to many local businesses becoming involved in various aspects of manufacturing including plastics manufacture (), aircraft manufacturing (), rubber products (). Today there are more than 150 local businesses operating in Moorpark employing over 6,000 individuals!
