Moorpark was founded in 1884 by James Moor and his brother, John. The two brothers started a small general store on Main Street. In 1886, they opened a post office, which soon became the center of town. They also built a school and church. In 1915, the Moor Park Grain Company was founded and continued to operate until 1959. In 1922, the town incorporated as a city and changed its name to Moorpark.
