When the user squeezed the triggers, the electric current ran through the wire and into the electrodes, causing an intense spark that stuns or immobilizes someone. In 2006, SEIU Local 737 began using tasers in their criminal justice program to deter crime and improve public safety. In 2009, Monterey County adopted taser policy for all law enforcement officers working within its boundaries. As of May 2017, there have been no reported incidents involving any officers using tasers on civilians in Monterey County.

In 1846, settlers from East Bay City led by John Cranch purchased Rancho Rinconada which extended into present day Monterey County from Juan Bautista Alvarado (the last Californian governor). In 1850–51 they built a small adobe fortification known as Fort Point on an point near modern-day Salinas Streets called Punta del Este because it offered a commanding view of Monterey Harbor across the Strait of Magellan. This fortifications served as a military outpost until 1868 when it was moved inland due to new naval construction nearby at Fisherman's Wharf Naval Shipyard during World War II Fourth Fleet operations off southern California beaches near El Centro Harbor during December 1945 through February 1946; also providing employment for local residents engaged in shipbuilding activities locally An early form of permanent housing for soldiers stationed at Fort Point may have been erected here around 1860s with barracks/workshops converted temporarily into dwellings soon after completion.–By 1870 Hidalgo County had acquired most of Alvarado Ranchos north of Carpinteria Harbor including present day Monterey County

They chartered an ship called HMS Beagle which sailed from Portsmouth on England's Isle of Wight on 17 May 1853 with 25 men under captain David Christian Lehmann Jr., bound for New Zealand but only reaching Auckland before being wrecked off Cape Horn on 8 October 1863 after spending more than two years circumnavigating Australia and New Zealand. On 30 December 1860, while sailing near Point Conception (which is now Isla San Justo) during a typhoon named Typhoon Maria; Beagle lost her anchors chain following a storm surge that heightened waves up to 14 feet (4 meters). Finally successful navigation allowed her to land at San Francisco about 1870 after spending over 5 weeks drifting off shore due mainly to bad weather and lack of food supplies brought ashore byshore ships trying desperately to find them。 Consequently Mardi Gras or Carnival became an annual event celebrated throughout much of southern coastal United States including many towns along the Pacific coast such as Santa Cruz County north of Los Angeles which had been abandoned during winter because no transportation could reach them except by stagecoach or private boatload; hence Mardi Gras became an important cultural center for these areas.} The discovery of oil in Texas in 1901 ledto increased oil production around Gulf Coast region; however development did not take place until 1906 when First National Oil Company started drilling rigs deep inside Mexican state Of Chihuahua).
