In 1875, the town annexed neighboring unincorporated areas including Canoga Park and Arroyo Seco which made it an even larger town with a population of over 100 people. On July 16, 1907, during the reign of Governor James Buchanan Smith, General George Armstrong Custer arrived at Alhambra Airport (now Angeleno Airport) looking for new territory to conquer in order to expand United States military power abroad during World War I. He picketed near present-day Monterey Park Boulevard and Pico Boulevard until late night on July 16th when he finally left after meeting with no resistance from local residents or police officers stationed nearby to protect property rights

The new building has two floors including an indoor amphitheater with a seating capacity of 3,000 people and features a contemporary plaza with trees and benches at one end while an outdoor stage is located at the other end facing Interstate 5
