In 1924, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass a gun control ordinance. The ordinance prohibited the possession of firearms by citizens without a permit and required that all firearms be registered with the city. Beginning in 1933, municipalities throughout California passed similar ordinances, which were designed to keep handguns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous individuals. Thiscommon sense approach worked for a time, but as handguns became more powerful and available through licensed dealers, it quickly became an issue. Monterey Park, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 73,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Urban Area. Monterey Park is bordered by Cathedral City to the east, La Habra to the south, and Cherry Valley to the west. The first permanent settler in what is now Monterey Park was José Gomez on November 14th 1847. By 1860 there were over 100 residents living in what would become Monterey Park. In 1874 two men by the name of Sperry and Aspinwall founded a post office called Sperryville in honor of their friend and mentor Amos Sperry. On July 4th 1886 three brothers - George Haggerty (1837-1911), James Haggerty (1850-1921) and John Haggerty (1857-1941) – organized a group of twenty men who bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land north of present day Monterey Park Boulevard for $1 per acre from Manuel Nieto de la Vega y Mesa. They named their new community after Charles Manson’s birthplace – Paloma Creek Ranch – but soon realized that they needed more space so they formed another company to buy an additional 1,200 acres (4 km²). With this extra land purchase they became one of America’s largest farmers with over 60 hectares (.22 sq mi; 7 acres) cultivated at any given time between 1888 and 1912! In 1910 Supervisor Harry Laughlin proposed that all citizens be required to carry government bonds which would secure them access to transportation and other needs such as water supply, schools, fire protection etc.. This proposal was met with enthusiasm by local businesses including Jardine's Produce which contributed $5 for each bond issue sold! On January 6th 1911 all citizens were granted voting rights and on February 3rd 1911 Mayor William Fenton announced that property values had increased enough so that a school district could be created! The old Main Street Bridge across Rialto Creek was also dedicated as a public park on October 1st 1912! The first high school in Monterey Park opened its doors on September 12th 1914 when Pasadena High School moved into its new building nearby on Sangre de Cristo Drive near Westmont Avenue. This innovative educational institution helped shape future leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Alice Paul & Billie Jean King while providing education for all children regardless of economic means! The following year saw even more innovation when Mills Regional Junior College opened its doors offering evening classes for students full time instead of taking weekend classes like many other junior colleges then doing! All these pioneers have left their mark not just on our community but also through continue contributions made today including donations to several universities such as Cal Poly Pomona & UCLA!.

Monterey Park, California is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 90,693 as of the 2010 United States Census. As a suburb of San Diego County, Monterey Park has a large concentration of military and law enforcement personnel. The city's namesake is Monterey Park Creek which flows through the city. The creek gave rise to its name when Englishman Major-General George Washington visited the area in 1795 and found it full of oaks and other trees that were not common in California at that time. Monterey Park was incorporated on November 3, 1919. It became an unincorporated community on December 1, 1959. The current mayor is Dianne Feinstein and the City Council members are Tom Bates (1stTerm), Gil Cedillo (2ndTerm), Jose Herrera (3rd Term) and Lorie Hochsprung (4th Term).
