In 1916, Monterey Park became an incorporated town with a mayor and six trustees who were responsible for all aspects of municipal government including zoning, water supply, schools, streetscaping and trash collection. On July 1 of that year it incorporated as an unincorporated community because its trustees felt towns should have more autonomy within their boundaries while still being subject to municipal control through ordinances passed by the governing board. In 1951 when Claremont High School was built new students had to leave their homes behind which caused many problems such as garbage piling up outside people's homes or waste accumulating inside people's homes creating unsightly piles of garbage each morning until residents got creative about solving this problem once and for all by building a large open air dumpster next to their schools which served as not just another school day project but also an ongoing workscape for parents used when free time allowed them too clean up their children's houses after school; this solved many Mosaic Wars between homeowners over who gets to keep what when newbies move into neighborhoods! As one might expect given its location on top of mountains bordering Los Angeles County it experienced occasional development throughout its history with residences continuing to be built closer to Highway 20 then later moving down hill towards downtown LASVille while businesses continued clustering near Interstate 5 along Exposition Boulevard creating an ever increasing commercial area bounded only by I-5/Exposition Boulevard on the south side while residential areas expanded up hills towards Northshire Drive creating a complex network of streetscapes unlike any other city I’ve been living in recently!

It was founded in 1887 by pioneers who came to the area looking for a new home after selling their old farmstead in nearby San Francisco. The city has since grown to encompass over 60,000 residents, making it one of the most populous and urban areas in Southern California. Monterey Park’s rich history can be traced back to its founding as a small town on the eastern edge ofSan Francisco. In 1887, local landowners petitioned for incorporation as Monterey Park, citing their desire for a community that would be “open to all classes of citizens and happy with plenty of open space for agricultural purposes” (Galloway 7). The incorporation was granted on October 15th, 1887. The town began growth rapidly, becoming home to around 100 people by 1890. By 1914, the population had reached 1,500 people and swelling further when annexation occurred from El Cajon into Monterey Park in 1916 (Fowler 6). The early years of Monterey Park were very colorful; there were many music festivals and events held here including an annual fair that attracted locals and visitors alike (Kemp 9). One such event was the first world cup soccer match between America and Scotland which took place on July 10th, 1895 at Healdsburg Golf Course. This event is often considered as a turning point in American soccer due to its high-profile player list including World Cup winner George Best (Fowler 8). Despite this success however, money difficulties plagued the town during these years which led to some disbanding of organizations or abandonment of projects (Doyle 3). In 1915 however, annexations occurred from El Cajon into Monterey Park – another major milestone for the city as it grew even more populous. At this time businesses started popping up throughout what became known as “the inner ring” surrounding downtown – offering services such as grocery stores, cinemas, auto shops etc. This section now constitutes much of North Beach neighborhood today (Baer 12). Monterey Park saw rapid growth during World War II too; with patriotic fervor fueling activity along with an increased demand for housing following Pearl Harbor(Hernandez 11), annexations continued until 1951 when only Wellesley remained annexed into Monterey Park forming part of San Diego County.(Moses 52) monterey park postwar years: growing pains but also opportunities
