In the early 1800s, Monterey Park was an agricultural community located in southeastern San Bernardino County. The area now includes the city of Pasadena and portions of Riverside and Orange counties. In 1851, James P. Greer opened a shooting gallery on a peninsula in the bay near what is now Seal Beach. The first ever public firearms exhibition was held at Greer’s place in 1853; it featured guns made by himself, his brother-in-law John Hargrave, and four other partners. In 1860, Captain Samuel Eliot Morison charted the Coast Ranges as he sailed past Monterey Park on his way from Honolulu to survey the California coast. He brought back two rifles and pistols that were exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1862. The next year saw the opening of what is now City Hall (the current building was built between 1887 and 1889), which became home to the Monterey Park Rifle Club from 1876 to 1886. From this club came many members who would help found other rifle clubs throughout Southern California during this time period including Pershing Ranch Rifle Club (1885), Arroyo Hills Rifle Association (1892), Desert Range Rifle Club (1907), Big Bear Valley Pistol & Gun Club (1915), Arrowhead NRA chapter #1 (1920) and others. In 1896, George Wickersham donated land to be used for a rifle range east of town on State Route 66 called “Wickersham” ranges after him. This range served as an important source of competition for local farmers as well as military units stationed along the coast during World War I. It also hosted airgun tournaments throughout its years of operation until 1971 when it closed due to increasing competition from state agricultural gun ranges west of town). In 1905, Mayor William Kiffin approved plans for a park adjacent to City Hall with $10,000 being offered for donations towards its establishment by various citizens groups led by Mrs John Lomas Fenton who later became known as “Mother Earth” because she championed parksmanship through her local radio show The Flower Show on KTLA Radio stations across Southern California during that era). Monterey Park is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 38,826 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Riverside County and one of two cities located within Los Angeles County. Monterey Park was founded on November 15, 1887 by colonists from Mexico who came to America looking for a new home. The community was named after Monterey Peninsula in Northern Spain because of its abundance of peaches and other fruit trees. The original town site lay south of present-day Monterey Park Avenue and east of the Anza–Borrego Desert National Monument before it was annexed by Lodi in 1895. In 1923, when Camp Pendleton became an independent military post and part of the newly formed county of San Bernardino, Monterey Park became part of that new municipality. After World War II, many businesses moved out as the population increased to more than 100,000 people; however, some remained until the early 1970s when a large housing development began to be built near Interstate 10. This caused problems for residents who had to use public transportation which increased traffic congestion on their streets and led to several legal challenges over who owned what addresses within the developing complex. Since 1984, Monterey Park has been managed through a city government which is made up of a mayor and eight council members with total responsibility for all aspects of municipal life including planning and zoning; water resources; budgeting; regulation; streetlights; trash collection; recycling services (privately funded); land use (residential/commercial/industrial); parking rates and road maintenance along with social services such as health clinics, libraries, police departments etc., fire protection etc.. Monterey Park's economy depends heavily upon aerospace manufacturing companies based at nearby Fullerton Airport while smaller retailers provide much needed retail opportunities within walking distance or short bus rides away from almost every conceivable type eatery or nightlife option available in Riverside County during any given timeframe outside Of Downtown Los Angeles or Orange County during peak tourist seasons!

The Monterey Park community was originally founded on May 25, 1887, when the first post office was established in Monterey Park. The community rapidly grew and soon had a general store, school, church, and other infrastructure. In 1907, Monterey Park acquired land north of its original boundaries to form what is now Mountain View. The community continued to grow and by 1912 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, the City Council adopted a resolution declaring December 26th as "Monterey Park Day". The date has been celebrated annually since then as part of the city's holiday celebration. In 1951, Monterey Park became an incorporated city with its own government and police department. It remained an unincorporated area until it was annexed by Los Angeles in 1984.
