In 1868, the United States Patent Office awarded a patent to George Smith and Alfred C. Pease for an improved rifle sight. This new sights consisted of a lens mounted on a small tube that was attached to the barrel of the rifle. The lens allowed the shooter to see what weapon he was shooting at from any angle, making it easier and faster to aim. The early riflesights were crude and did not provide good accuracy. However, over time, improvements were made and in 1907, Congress passed the National Firearms Act which shifted gun ownership from individuals who had to obtain a license from local authorities to those who could own firearms without such restrictions. This act also created the National Rifle Association (NRA) in 1934 as an arm of Congress’s hunting and sporting department in order to promote firearm ownership and protect Second Amendment rights across America. Today,gun sights are still used by shooters all over America in both crime prevention and target shooting activities. Montebello is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,795 at the 2010 census. Montebello is located on the eastern edge of Riverside County and along Interstate 10. It began as a small farming community in 1892, when John D. Rockefeller founded his Standard Oil colony there. The name Montebello comes from Spanish for "mountain peak." The town's first post office opened in 1893 and its first storey was built by J.M. Moynihan & Sons. A two-story school building was completed in 1896 and became the first high school in San Bernardino County. In 1902, the Town Council voted to rename the community Montebello after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had been imprisoned in Valley Forge during the Mexican War. Today, many of Montebello's buildings date back to this time including city hall which was built 1907-1909 and renovated in 1996 with money provided by Rockefeller himself In 1916, Nelsons Manufacturing Company (later known as Sears) moved its manufacturing operations from Chicago to Montebello where it continued until 1984. At that time it employed over 3,000 people across four plants; one closed down in 2001 due topoor health conditions but reopened as an antique store later that year The local hospital opened its doors at what is now called Letterman Hospital on April 6th 1888 under auspices of The First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles (founded 1853). Drs Joseph Letterman (founder), William Sears (president) and James Hickey were involved with early medical care hereabouts For many years Letterman Hospital functioned as both primary care facility for patients within Monterrey City limits as well as providing satellite services to other hospitals throughout Southern California . On October 31st 1957 lettermanhospital closed due primarily to lack of funding but reopened under new management September 9th 1958 renamed Regional Medical Center Of Southern California .
