In 1853, Gottlieb ( founder of Remington) patented an alloy of metals that he called "Remington's unique oil." The first gun lubricant was developed in 1893 by Adolphus C. Smith and Company in America as part of their new rifle series known as the Model 1895 pistols. This early lubricant consisted of lead, zinc, arsenic, antimony, magnesium and alumina mixed together in a detergent-based solution. The development of advances in metallurgy allowed for the production of high quality firearms oils that could be stored and used multiple times without deteriorating over time. Today's gun lubricants are composed of many different elements including petroleum products, silicone inhibitors, antioxidants, stabilizers and thickeners to provide desired performance at all times.
It is a well-known fact that firearms use a lot of lubrication to keep them running smoothly and safely. Lubricants help to prevent wear on parts and increase the overall accuracy of firearms, making them more efficient in combat. There are many different types of lubricants available on the market today, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. The most common type of lubricant used in firearms is petroleum jelly (PJ). PJ is a thick liquid that appears black when poured into channels cut into the barrel. It quickly spreads through the firearm's breech area and goes to work washing away dirt, grease, or other contaminants. Piston rings often require 300-500 ppm PJ to function properly, making it an important component for maintaining accuracy and reliability. Another popular lubricant used in firearms is motor oil (MO). MO has been shown to be effective at removing dirt, oils, Waxes, etc., from moving parts while also increasing performance and reducing friction. However, MO can be messy to apply and must be applied carefully so as not to cause damage to delicate components such as barrels or triggers. Additionally, MO may contain harmful chemicals which can impact users' health if mishandled
The earliest reference to gun lubrication is from 1871, when a company called The Western Gun Company of Montebello, California developed and marketed a new type of lubricant made from beeswax and bees.
Montebello, California is located in the Central Valley of California and is approximately 120 miles from Los Angeles. The population was estimated at over 54,000 in 2013. Montebello’s rich history can be found in its many buildings and sites that include a courthouse, a hospital, a botanical garden, a library, and more. The city began as Spanish land grant for José Antonio de la Peña y Ortega on July 25th, 1821. It was named after General Don José Antonio Monterey who had been killed during the Mexican-American War. In 1847, the United States acquired title to the land from Spain through Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. In 1865 it became an incorporated town with Anglo-Saxon name of “Montebello” under Normal Land Act of 1862. On February 2nd, 1876 it became part of Kern County when it was organized. As part of the American Westward expansion in the late 1800s Montebello became an important center for cattle ranching and farming with its vast ranches and accompanying townsites such as White Sands (1901), Saugus (1907), Escondido (1920), Rancho Mirage (1925), Porterville(1929) and finally Redondo Beach (1964). Today many businesses still operate out of Montebello including Wells Fargo Bank which has its headquarters in Downtown Montebello and also provides banking services to surrounding communities; Western Union which operates out of several locations throughout Southern California; HP Incorporated which has its world headquarters in Palo Alto; Google Incorporated which moved their main campus from Mountain View to Silicon Valley near San Francisco; McDonalds Corporation having its first location here in 1925 followed by other restaurants soon thereafter until 1984 where they opened their first corporate office outside North America at 1150 5th Avenue North Emeryville Calif.; ChevronTexaco having their original gas station located on Main Street before moving across Highway 101 into what is now known as Energy Park Drive ; Allstate Insurance Company being founded here by Jens Hansen back in 1915 before eventually becoming Allstate Financial Services divisions Nationwide Headquarters located just south of Interstate 10 exit 6 off I-10 eastbound exit ; AirBnB - originally started as an online hotel booking service but later went global with over 1 million properties worldwide One important aspect that makes Montebello such an interesting city is its large number of vintage cars that are often seen around town or parked outside various businesses or homes. From classic sedans like Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme’s to muscle cars like Pinto Buses this community features plenty old vehicles for residents to enjoy!
Gun lubrication is an important practice for any firearm. It helps keep the firearms function as they should, and can save lives. The history of gun lubrication is long and Contains many different methods used to achieve this goal. Some of these methods include: hot water, vegetable oil, grease, lube on a stick, and machine oil. Hot Water was the first method used to achieve gun lubrication goals. This method consisted of filling a pot with hot water and adding enough vegetable oil or grease to cover the guns barrel assembly (i.e., bolt carrier group, screws, magazines) completely. The process was completed by bringing the pot of water to a boil before Adding the needed amount of each lubricant material in turn until all ingredients were dissolved (i.e., hot water += vegetable oil = grease = lube on a stick). Vegetable Oil was second choice for achieving gun lubrication goals because it does not leave a film on surfaces like other oils do and does not cause corrosion on metals like other oils do (Kemp et al 1978). A drawback that comes with this choice is that it must be applied regularly or else it will start corroding the firearm’s internals over time (Flynn 1988). Grease can also result in build-up which can lead to malfunction if left unchecked (Goudreau 1984). Machine Oil however is less corrosive than other oils and has been found to work well when added sparingly (<1/4 mL per 100 gm) as compared to others (>5mL per 100 gm)(Baker et al 1974; Flynn 1988; Hsu et al 1995). The third Method employed was Lube On A Stick which worked best when done intermittently throughout the day in order not to cause build-up while using the firearm(Flynn 1988). This method consisted of putting some grease or vegetable oil onto a stick then using it as a Applicator where necessary instead of depending upon fingers during use.(Goudreau 1984; Hsu et al 1995) The fourth Method employed was Means To Apply Grease Which Worked Best When Done Frequently And Left No Build-Up In Between Use(Flynn 1988). This Method consisted Of Puttinggrease Or VegetableOil OntotheStickThenUsingItAsAApplicatorWhere NecessaryInsteadOf DependentUpon Fingers During Use.(Goudreau1984;Hsuetal 1995) Machine Oil continued being chosen over other options forgun lubricant until about 2000 when new technology developed that allowed for droplet application directly onto firearms parts without reducing performance.(Wang 2003)

In 1861, after the American Civil War ended, President Abraham Lincoln approved the Overland Mail route from Sacramento to Mexico City and this new transportation system allowed for more people and goods to be brought into California. As a result of this trade, Montebello started becoming known as the "Gateway to California."
