The Montebello Gun Laser Museum is a museum in Montebello, California that tells the story of gun lasers. The museum was founded in 1984 by Dr. John Wiegand and Dr. James Peebles, both of whom were researchers at the University of Utah's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Montebello, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located about an hour's drive from Fresno and two hours from Sacramento. Montebello is bordered by the towns of Easton to the east and Lodi to the west. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. The area that now makes up Montebello was first settled in 1853 by families from Northern Italy. In 1875, a post office was established in what is now Montebello and it continued to be used until 1912. The name "Montebello" comes from Mount Diablo which can be seen in the distance. In 1906, a campaign to convince Congress to appropriate money for a new water system began in Montebello. After many years of lobbying, water became available for use in Montebello on October 1st, 1922. Today, water service continues with city-owned reservoirs while private wells are provided for those who need them. There are several businesses located in downtown Montebello such as Lawyer's Corner Bookstore & Cafe and Pizza Hut USA Inc., both since relocated since their days as Main Street restaurants near City Hall (now an apartment complex). One of the newest businesses to open recently has been Bottega Veneta which opened just off Interstate 5 on Avenue J between Main and US 101 on November 11th 2009
There is a long and varied history of firearms lasers. In 1849, American miner James H. Gray discovered the huge gold deposit at Montebello, California. The discovery broke the Mexican-American War and made California an American possession. For the next twenty years, miners mined gold out of the earth until it was exhausted. In 1858, while working in a nearby claim, George Custer was killed by Indians and his "buffalo" (a Native American horse) Wounded Knee Massacre brought about a lasting change in U.S.-Mexican relations. With the discovery of more gold mines and other minerals in California, mining activity increased rapidly and by 1860 there were over 1 million people employed in minerial enterprises in this area of what is now known as Silicon Valley. Goldmining operations were tightly regulated under Mexican law which prohibited foreigners from entering into business with Mexicans except through mutual consenting partnership with an Mexican partner who would own 50% of each company’s assets; no such arrangement could be made with Americans because they had no legal right to invest property or resources within Mexico – this provision notwithstanding any treaties that had been negotiated between these two countries during the previous century. The first Americans to exploit the new deposits at Montebello were men led by Captain John Sutter who organized a party of ten men on October 5th, 1859 to prospect for gold near present-day San Jose airport (now part of Santa Clara County). Just days later they met Mormon forces coming down from Salt Lake City (then called Fillmore) headed for what was then Oregon Territory but soon became California when General Brigham Young arrived at Stockton on November 14th reporting news of Sutter’s find. Because so many people had come seeking gold since Captain Gray's initial exploration in January 1850, various companies began attempting to organize a field army or drive out rival claimants including Butte & District Mining Company led by Isaac Stevens which successfully fought off several attempted invasions before disbanded on July 17th 1859 due to lack of supplies and equipment necessary for such an undertaking; however most major discoveries occurred independently without any concerted effort save those led by Captains John Sutter and George Custer whose wagon trains carried their finds all over Northern California as well as Nevada whereupon he eventually became known as America's "Gilded Age" landowner thanks to his role as one among several key players involved in organizing its early development.) AS GOLD RUSHED INTO CALIFORNIA FROM OTHER STATES THE REGULATIONS GOVERNING MINING TOOK ON A LARGER SCALE THAN EVER BEFORE AS MANY COMPANIES ENTERED BUSINESS IN THIS AREA OF SILICON VALLEY BECAUSE AMERICAN MINE WORKERS HAD NO AUTHORITY UNDER LAW TO INVEST OR RESOURCE OUR OWN COUNTRY AGAINST THEIR NEIGHBORS UNLESS THEY AND THEIR PARTNERS AGREED TO FORM A COOPERATIVE ENTERPRISE WITH AN MEXICAN PARTNER WHICH WAS PREVENTABLE FOR FEMALE NONMILITARY MEMBERS ONLY; THESE TYPE OF COOPERATIONS WERE CALLED “KINNEY SHORT SUMMER ASSOCIATION” EVENTS THAT FOLLOWED IN ITS EFFECT MODERN DAY NAME: MONTEBELLO GOLD DIGGING COASTAL GOLF CLUB
Montebello was founded in 1887 by several ranchers as a small, unincorporated community near the Mexican border. The town quickly became adry and dusty outpost, known for its horses and cattle. In 1916, the US government established Montebello as a military post to defend the southern border of California from Mexico. The post served as a stop on the route between San Diego and Yuma until it was discontinued in 1967. The town's fortunes changed following World War II when hundreds of American servicemen arrived to work oninking farms in Montebello and nearby Anza-Borrego Valley. The war inspired new development in Montebello, including the opening of local businesses and the construction of homes for American soldiers. In 1947, Montebello became an incorporated city with its own mayor and City Council. During the 1960s, there were growing tensions along the US-Mexico border over drugs smuggling routes into California from Central America. As a result, police began raids on local marijuana dispensaries that had been operating openly since before legalization laws went into effect in 2014. This campaign led to more than 170 arrests throughout Montebello during 2016 alone.
