Montebello, California is a small town located in the central Valley of California. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census and it is part of the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area. Montebello is located on Highway 237 between San Jose and Sunnyvale. It has a rich history dating back to 1849 when miners discovered gold near present day Montebello. The towns name comes from Spanish General José de Monterey y Salinas who led an army against Mexico in 1847. Today, Montebello's restaurants serve Mexican cuisine including enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas and churros. The downtown district of Montebello features a variety of shops and businesses including two banks, four post offices, three movie theaters (two with digital projection), two libraries, a restaurant/bar/club complex called Sam’s Club and several Italianate residences that were built in the late 1800s by wealthy residents of San Francisco Bay Area for themselves and their families. Most notable are The Beaux Arts clock tower which was completed in 1912 as one of first examples of Art Deco architecture in North America, as well as many other fine buildings throughout the downtown district such as The National Bank building which was designed by architect George Romney in 1922; this building still stands today with its original art deco facade! The nearby city of Palo Alto has a larger population but less diverse cultural heritage than Montebello does. However, Palo Alto contains some excellent restaurants including Pizzeria Paradiso (formerly Ristorante Mozzarella) which serves pizza made fresh daily on site; Asociación Canaria (a Puerto Rican restaurant); La Bottega Bianca (a pizzeria serving Italian dishes); Acoustic Café (an acoustic night spot with live music nightly), among others.

Montebello is a census-designated place in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. Montebello's name comes from Spanish for "Mountains of Purgatory." Montebello is located on the Santa Clara River and its unincorporated community of Monterey Park. The first Europeans to see Montebello were Spanish missionaries who traveled up the river in 1795. Spain had founded missions at Monterey and San Miguel de Allende in 1821 and these two missions soon became key centres of Hispanic culture in Northern California. In 1852, Mexico gained independence from Spain, which led to a change in policies towards Hispanics within Mexican America. This new Mexican government began to fund Sephardic Jews who wanted to emigrate to North America as part of their religious conversion process. As a result, many Jews moved into southern California during this time period including some who settled in Montebello. In 1872, when American settlers arrived in southern California they encountered Native Americans living near present-day Redding Creek and the creek's namesake mountain - Mount Diablo which was then known as Coyote Hill because it was difficult for white men to climb up or down due to tight cliffs nearby. The settlers called this area "Nimbus" (meaning "light") because they could not see it from where they lived and thought that it must be an extremely high mountain because of all the smoke rising from it each day. Soon after, more settlements were founded along Nimbus including Mono City which became one of the most important towns in Southern California during this time period! The townspeople of Mono City banded together to form the Mono Municipal Water District (MMWD) on November 4th 1892 just days before Californio statehood was granted! This marked an important milestone as water supplies for eastern Los Angeles had been provided by wagon trains travelling through Soda Springs since 1850 while western Orange County had access to water only through Canoga Park! The MMWD soon became responsible for providing drinking water for both Monrovia and downtown Los Angeles as well as other communities across Southern California! The town rapidly grew due to its importance during this time period with many businesses opening up such as a general store, bakery, hotel and post office quickly becoming popular among residents. Many homes were built throughout montebello during this era such as several large blocks of flats that still stand today! Although there wasn’t much industry until after World War II when various businesses opened up around montebello like printing houses etc., services like healthcare/dental care started growing exponentially once technology got involved!
