Monterey County, California is located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area and has been a center of ammunition production for over 100 years. Montebello, California was first settled in 1849 by Mexican Americans who were escaping the Mexican Revolution. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the border of both Oregon and California. In 1855, the United States acquired Nevada from Mexico and renamed it Arizona Territory. As a result of this change in name, Montebello became part of Apache County, New Mexico Territory. In 1886, the United States acquired what is now California from Spain as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. As a result, Montebello became part of Alta California Colony. The colony was organized into counties in 1887 and Montebello County was created within that county organization. In 1912, the statehood movement began in California and Montebello quickly emerged as one of its leading proponents. On November 3rd, 1912, voters approved Proposition 8 which granted voting rights to all citizens regardless of race or color. This move helped solidify black integration into American society and helped create a new generation of leaders in Montebello who would guide the community through various challenges over the next few decades.
Montebello, California is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 23,402 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. Montebello's economy depends on agriculture and ranching. The city has a rich history dating back to 1853 when it was named for General Valeriano Montezuma, who had settled there after fleeing Mexico during the Mexican–American War. The City of Montebello was incorporated on January 3, 1853 by a group of men from Los Angeles and other nearby towns who were seeking to create an agricultural community with access to markets in central Southern California. The name "Monterey" had been used by Mexicans in this area for many years prior to that date. In 1860, John Sutter opened the first post office in what is now Montebello; however, no one lived there until 1892 when Wm Hovey moved into his home and started growing grapes which became the town's primary industry. In 1870 he also built a cotton gin which still stands today within walking distance of downtown Montebello; it was one of only two public works built in town during its early years. This period saw great transformation for Montebello as well - although initially primarily an agricultural village with subsistence farming practices, over time various industrial businesses began to open up and fill needs such as transportation (the first streetcar line ran through town in 1879), warehousing (the development of company warehouses led to increased production aroundtown), manufacturing (manufacturing plants were constructed throughout southern San Bernardino County during this time), and even health care services (an early hospital was built on University Avenue). In 1930s/40s much of downtown business moved out along University Ave., but some remain today including: Hawk Eye Glasses & Optics store (opened 1935), American Greetings store (opened 1938), Staples Center Store (opened 1984) and ABS Corp.-formerly known as Western Electric Co.-(now Comcast) store on University Ave.(opened 1953). Downtown business growth slowed starting in the late 1950s due mainly to suburbanization within San Bernardino County but some businesses have retained their presence downtown such as Progressive Insurance Plc., Apple Inc., JCPenney Co., Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Co., Ford Motor Company`s plant adjacent to campus Grocery Outlet Centers stores operated by Safeway Stores Incorporated from 1978-1985 renamed simply Safeway before closing down completely 2006-2007 when Kroger bought them all outright.) Today most retail businesses are located outside of downtown where there are few restaurants or nightlife options except for strip malls located near freeways exits providing easy access both day and night residents can get basic necessities like grocery shopping etc... alike making it difficult or impossible for students or seniors trying desperately find affordable housing

Montebello is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, located about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The population was 9,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for Italian general and conqueror Alessandro Montebello, who led an expedition through the area in 1821. In 1892, the town’s post office opened with the name of “Mansfield Park” after Mansfield Park, England, where General Montebello had been born on February 12th, 1785. In 1916, two years after World War I ended and as a result of Japanese efforts to win concessions from America by means of propaganda leaflets dropped over Southern California (and other parts), Congress passed a measure establishing Monterrey Dam on Mono Lake in Montebello Township to provide irrigation water for surrounding agricultural land irrigated with water from Mono Lake. Because this dam would have had a major impact on local economy and natural resources (especially timber), many people opposed it vigorously; consequently there was strong resistance to its construction throughout much of southern California during those years. The dam ultimately failed but created an impressive feat of engineering: one mile long and 1/4 mile wide at its widest point! Today’s visitor center commemorates that event with exhibits about local history and US Army Corps of Engineers projects related to flood control which have affected Montebello since 1915. In 1946–1947 when newly formed San Bernardino County became part of Los Angeles County following statehood within California – including all the unincorporated areas west of Interstate 10 – Monterrey Dam became subject to annexation by Los Angeles proper as part of that county boundaries adjustment process. However due largely to objections voiced by some residents living eastward along portions or all or mostof Interstate 805 / State Route 106 from north thereof into what then constituted San Bernardino County – principally because these easterners felt they were beinguced unfairly into giving up valuable agricultural landINO their backsyards for development beyond their gates adjacent thereto within city limits even though no such development occurred despite repeated admonitions thereto by city officials – annexation did not occur until 1957 when communities eastward along I-805 / SR 106 finally came together among themselves under banner slogans such as “We want our towns back!” Thus began a slow but sure disintegration over time culminating finally in secession in 1978 followed by incorporation into City Of La Jolla effective January 1st 1979 Population: 9653 (2010)
Montebello is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern outskirts of San Francisco, about 30 miles northeast of Oakland and 15 miles east of Berkeley. The first permanent settler in Montebello was George Sutter who arrived in 1847. He named his land "Sutter's Land." In 1868, John Cranch discovered oil fields in what would later become Montebello and developed them into a successful business. In 1879, Southern Pacific Railway built its line from Oakland to Santa Clara through Montebello and it quickly became an important transportation center for the area. This development led to increased job opportunities for people in the city and also helped fuel development around the town site. In 1915, when World War I began, most of downtown Montebello was destroyed by fire; however, due to donations from local businesses and citizens alike, reconstruction began right away with new buildings being erected that still stand today including City Hall and State Capitol Building. Montebello experienced another boom during World War II as many residents moved into newly created military housing developments adjacent to Douglas Aircraft Plant on Peralta Street which produced fighter planes for America’s war effort. Many homes were also used as air-raid shelters during wartime times. After WWII ended, manyNormandy veterans returning home found their old neighborhoods had been leveled or replaced by high-rise apartment towers; however, many locals decided to stay put and enjoy their community until market conditions warranted moving again. In 1957 it was announced that all school buses would move out of town after more than fifty years serving students from across Contra Costa County; this decision sparked outcry among some parents who felt their children were losing one of their best resources while others saw this move as a sign that things were changing for good in the city; over time though most parents slowly accepted changes happening within their own neighborhoods without having any negative impact on social interactions between themselves and their children
