Montclair is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 26,362. Montclair is located on the eastern edge of Oakland and is bordered to the east by Hayward and to the south by San Pablo Bay. The downtown core contains a mix of Victorian architecture dating from 1853-1875 and new industrial buildings erected since World War II. The first weapon flashlight was invented in 1879 by George Eastman and Maurice Conway while working at Walthamstow Arsenal in England as research assistants for their American inventor brothers Edward Westinghouse and Samuel Morse. They developed an oil-fired handheld light that could be used to illuminate dark areas such as warehouses or manufacturing plants before they were converted into nightlights for use during Prohibition Era raids on speakeasies. In 1905, Adolph Auerbach designed and built one of the world's first commercial weapons flashlights using multiple high-outputbulbs synchronized through an editing gear mounted on top of a tripod. It was called "Auerbach's PistolFlashlight" and featured a 6x27mm lens with 100 lumens output per bulb (later increased to 600 Lumens). This light enabled firearms commanders to illuminated target areas during actual combat without having to rely upon torches or searchlights which could become too focused in close quarters situations. The development of hand held device led directly to indoor fluorescent lighting becoming prevalent throughout most industrialized societies around the world with LCD devices taking over hand-held flashlights starting in 2002/2003 when digital daylight sensors became available making it possible to produce high quality Videos with no motion blur

Montclair, California was the first city to have a municipally-owned and operated flashlight company. The precursor to today's Montclair-based LED flashlight company was founded in 1923 by three businessmen - Julius Kahn, Harry Goldsmith and Jack Kapp - as the American Flashlight Corporation. At its peak in 1954, American Flashlight employed nearly 100 people. In 1959, the company relocated its operations to a new building at 4th Street and Market Place in Montclair after losing its original location due to fire hazard. In 1984, American Flashlight merged with two other companies - Nichrome Inc. (now known as Sylvania) and JBL Inc. (now part of Lululemon Athletica). This merger resulted in the creation of one of North America's largestLED flashlight companies with over $1 billion in sales during its heyday. In 2006, American Flashlight merged with Cree (formerly Phillips Co.) resulting in Cree's purchase of majority ownership interests in American Flashlight from NichromeIncorporated for an undisclosed sum of money. This move allowed Cree to assume worldwide leadership for LED flashlight production. Today, Cree is responsible for all LED lighting products produced by American Flashlight including both high-power LEDs used for security applications such as floodlights or car headlights and low-power LEDs used for general illumination or everyday use such as flashlights or headlamps

Montclair is located northeast of San Francisco on the border of Berkeley and Oakland. It has a history dating back to 1847 when gold was discovered in the area. The city was named for Commodore John J. Montgomery, who had originated it as part of a larger land grant to Joshua Barney and Wm. H. Wellman from Sir Francis Drake's estate in 1777. Montclair first became an agricultural center with its own cotton gin, foundry, and bakery before becoming one of America's leading financial centers during the late 1800s thanks to its prominence as both a textile production center and banking center.
