Montclair, California is a town in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 14,237 at the 2010 census. Montclair is located in the East Bay region of San Francisco County. It borders Oakland to the north and east, Hayward to the south and west, and Berkeley to the northwest. Montclair's history dates back to 1875 when a group of homesteaders from New Jersey founded a farmstead on what is now Russian Hill Road. The site would become an important agricultural center during the early days of California settlement. In 1887, Montclair became part of Oakland Township which grew rapidly due to its proximity to San Francisco and its ability to access railroad tracks. The township's growth led to development around Russian Hill Road with homes being erected along both sides of the road until it became an arterial street. In 1906, Montclair incorporated as a city under state law which granted local government more power over public resources than municipalities in other counties. At that time there were only two other cities in Alameda County - Pleasanton and Fremont - so incorporation represented a significant milestone for Montclair citizens. For many years following incorporation, Montclair functioned as an unincorporated village within Oakland Township with limited city services and infrastructure available outside of downtown annexation date (1912). However, with rapid growth throughout the 1920s and 1930s, annexed areas began developing around downtown including North Park (now known as Downtown Oakland), South Park (now known as South Berkeley), Westlake Village (now known as West Oakland), and much of today's Montclair neighborhoods such as Elmwood Heights/Park Avenue/Newark Avenue/Albany Avenue/Pleasanton Boulevard/Russian Hill Road etc.. During this time period social changes took place throughout America including increased rates of divorce; increasing numbers of black Americans moving into white-majority suburbs; suburban flight from urban centers; however most importantly new waves of immigrants arriving in search of economic opportunity arrived in Southern California during this time period bringing their own unique cultural values and experiences which continue to influence everyday life today

In recent years, however, City of Industry has been increasingly overshadowed by larger successor municipalities such as BART (bus Rapid Transit), Apple Valley (a suburb located adjacent to downtown) and East Oakland (to the east).
