Moore and his wife, Lucy Atherton Moore, on April 16, 1853 as a small farming town named for their farmhouse in nearby Unadilla Township. Many of Montclair’s unique features date back To its early days as an agricultural community with dairy cows grazing near present day Lakeshore Drive while cotton fields stretched out into what is now central downtown Montclair; today much of that rural countryside remains intact with rolling hills bordered by farmslands often housing five or six barns each surrounded by gardens complete with chickens and bees! In fact much of what once lay within walking distance of today’s downtown (and even parts of central) area were developed only after World War II when demand for housing created acres upon acres of open land suitable for development! Today most all major roads leading into town center run through farmland so there is little need for access either from downtown or any major streets outside of towncenter! In addition several interesting landmarks still remain including: The old cannonball factory built by James Wm Moore himself just east off I-880 north of town center where "Old Time" balls still are made today as well as several churches (healing church included), numerous homes built specifically for farmers living close enoughto market their crops & goods (& sometimes also used as jail cells), two large libraries (& one smaller branch) & dozens of small businesses along 2 main strips running west-southwest between downtown & central business district - plus many more scattered throughout unincorporated areas thru out the sprawling township!

Montclair is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is located on the Peninsula between Oakland and Berkeley. Montclair's history begins with European settlers in 1836 when Captain James Montgomery built a log cabin near what is now downtown Montclair. In 1853, John Smeaton founded a post office in Montclair as part of his Rancho Grade School project. In 1861, Peter Guggenheim donated land to build an agricultural college on Park Avenue in what is now downtown Montclair. The college opened in 1865 as Northern Illinois University (NUI). NUI became Montclair State College in 1972 after it merged with North Dakota State University to become North Dakota University – Dakotah Valley. The university has since been renamed Montana State University – Montana Campus and remains a public institution under federal law. The city was incorporated on December 4, 1909 by vote of the municipal council through proclamation from then-Mayor Charles Wickersham Jr.. At its incorporation, Montclair had a population of 10 people; today it has over 24,000 residents! On October 13th 1916 local citizens successfully petitioned for annexation into Berkeley due to their concern about possible overcrowding at nearby UC Berkeley campuses which were then being developed rapidly by Cal Tech and other universities. As result of this annexation effort, Montclair had more than doubled its size within two years! In 1951–1952 there was an extensive renovation/updating of City Hall which included new art deco design elements typical at that time including three large projecting towers that still stand today as characteristic feature of City Hall property today (alongside many original buildings). On July 11th 1960 the first major league baseball game ever played at Municipal Stadium saw the visiting New York Giants defeated 6-2 thanks largely to strong play by local players Dean Rea and Dick Weisbeck both playing outfield for the first time! On November 17th 1969 during Mayor Harry Cohen’s final term as mayor he announced plans for demolition/replacement of all but one gas station along Center Street due to age & environmental concerns following decades of operation without any significant problem Solon Gorman established himself as one of America’s leading restaurateurs soon becoming majority owner & operator reverting back to his original name: Harry Cohen Restaurants Incorporated! That same year also saw construction begin on what would later become known simply as “City Hall” with completion just shy of two years later on September 25th 1971! With much fanfare local contractor Edward Jaffe designed & constructed oneofthe world’s largest concrete arches exclusively for use inside City Hall marking not only an important milestone but also signalizing another era in City Halls history where quality customer service would again be central focus….continuing until replacement began nearly 20 years later when finally replaced with stateoftheart+tech facility!! Today almost all former features associated with earlyCityHallnowoperateasmunicipalfacilitiesincludingnewinteriordesignfeatures&datacollectionsystemsthroughoutcity!
