In 1892, a gun swivel was patented in Monrovia, California. The inventor, George W. Winchester, claimed that the device allowed users to more easily rotate their firearms while they were firing them. At first, few people believed him and many thought that he was just making up a story. However, after Winchester's demonstration at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, the idea of using a gun swivel as an addition to one's shooting practice became popular. In 1895, Winchester won a patent for his invention and began selling his devices. By 1902, nearly every American city had at least one gun swivel installation. Monrovia is a small town in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 8,869 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern border of Oakland and the western edge of Berkeley. The community was founded in 1887 by Augustus Childs Monro and his wife Lucy Hill Monro as a summer home for themselves and their three children. In 1907, they moved to a more permanent site on what is now Airport Boulevard. They developed a citrus industry that produced oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes and other fruit products for local markets. In 1946, when American Motors Corporation began manufacturing vehicles in nearby Richmond (now part of Berkeley), it decided to build its new plant on land near Monrovia. The company named the plant "Monsanto" after Augustus Childs Monro's donated land for the factory; it remained in operation until 1977. Monroe High School was established in 1924 as one of several high schools built in response to Muni Proving Ground public school openings during World War II which had been caused by increased demand for students unable or unwilling to serve with military units due to patriotism or national service requirements. As enrollment increased throughout the 1940s and 50s there were additional buildings erected including an athletic field which became known as "The Woodrow Wilson Stadium". Monroe Junior-Senior High School followed suit in 1954 before becoming Senior High School when Moraga Valley merged into San Francisco Unified School District early in 1957). On July 15th 1959 monroe junior-senior highschool closed its doors after serving over 60 years!

The first people who lived in what is now Monrovia were Native Americans who cooked their food over an open fire. They used salt water from the ocean for irrigation and hunted game that they killed with arrows and spears. By 1800, there were about 10 families living in what is now Monrovia. In 1853, two Mormons founded the town of Fillmore on Humboldt Bayou near present-day Fresno because they wanted to set up a farming community without having to worry about Indian raids so often occurring in their area. Fillmore grew quickly and by 1860 had a population of 507 people. The town became an important center for trade because it was located on the route between Stockton and Sacramento. It also served as a stop on stagecoach routes that passed through Mono Lake region
