Monrovia is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. It is located on the south bank of the San Francisco Bay. The name "Monrovia" comes from Spanish "Munrovia"—a place where trees were once plentiful and strong enough to make rope. The first permanent settlement in what is now Contra Costa County was made by adobe builders who came from Guerrero State, Mexico during the period 1847-1848. They named their new town Montevideo because they could not find a better site anywhere else in California. A Post Office called Monrovia was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. During World War II, Monrovia played an important role as a military base for the USArmy's Third Infantry Division ( nicknamed "The Golden Fleece"). In 1945, General George S Patton's forces invaded Japan and overran much of southern China; part of this campaign took place through Taiwan Strait and into occupied China across the Yangtze River. American troops then crossed into Japan and mopped up any remaining resistance before returning home on September 1st 1945 - less than two weeks after landing at Okinawa! After World War II ended there were few civilian buildings or businesses left in Monrovia so development started with building housing units which quickly became popular throughout Contra Costa County during the postwar years aided by cheap labor imported from nearby Silicon Valley jobs markets such as San Jose and San Francisco proper which had become expensive to maintain due to high population density especially following World War II bombing raids which destroyed large areas of downtowns around these cities causing numerous casualties along with extensive damage rendering many sections of these cities unlivable for months or even years afterwards often leaving entire neighborhoods abandoned overnight while other sections slowly but surely resumed normal living conditions albeit with some infrastructure reconstruction/renovation required during this time such as new water supplies coming on line) In 1951 when Interstate 80 went thruMonroe Ave (our current street name) became one of its exits going east then west then north out towards Livermore Peak park & back down again becoming I-80 again just past our current stop sign turning onto today's main street . This interchangeserved dual purposes being both an entrance ramp onto I-80 & also served as a truck stop providing access to local farms leading to Livermore peak park where buses would pick up travelers heading eastbound or westbound on I-80

In 1875, parts of what are now downtown Monrovia were razed for newly built housing developments that followed a rush for land during social changes following Reconstruction which had ended with the end of slavery in America. In 1915-16 local historian Harry Houdini ran from courthouse to courthouse across town trying unsuccessfully to gain access to evidence seized from Al Capone's trial which took place just north of downtown Monrovia on October 14th that same year
