In the early 1900s, a man named Harry Wiederhorn designed and manufactured target holders in Modesto, California. The company was founded in 1905 by Harry Wiederhorn and his son, John Wiederhorn. Target holders were used to shoot targets at various local fairs and tournaments. In 1912, Harry Wiederhorn died suddenly and his son John took over the business. The company continued production until the early 1920s. From 1922 to 1923, the company was run by Alonzo S. Weisman until he became bankrupt. In 1924, John Wiederhorn passed away and his son Harry took over ownership of the business again. From 1928 to 1949, Harry Wiederhorn's widow operated the business as a sideline concern with her husband's help providing marketing support for her products. In 1949, Harry Wiederhorn's widow sold the business to Easley & Company who continuing production until 1978 when it merged with American Shooting Supplies Corporation (ASSC) which in turn merged into National Sporting Goods Corporation (NSGC). National Sporting Goods Corporation (NSGC) continued manufacture of target holders until 1984 when it was acquired by Brownells Incorporated who continue production today under their own brand name “Brownells”

Modesto is a city in the Sacramento metropolitan area, located in northwestern California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 179,471. The name Modesto comes from Spanish and means " lowly" or "backward." The first settlement was made on November 7, 1859 by José María Orozco and his brother Manuel Orozco after they left their farmstead at San Pablo to prospect for gold near Fresno. They named their new town for José María's father-in-law, Moreno de las Casas who had helped them find their way out of Mexico City during the Mexican Revolution. In 1872, A. S. Barnes purchased land east of Modesto from Juan Bautista Obregon and founded what would become Barnes & Noble bookstore chain today. In 1894, John Witherspoon opened a small grocery store in nearby Porterville while he was working as a civil engineer for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Witherspoon became wealthy when PG&E built the Central Valley freeways which connected Northern California with Southern California and Paso Robles, CA (now Redding). Witherspoon donated his entire 5 million dollar fortune to establish UC Berkeley's School of Forestry and Environmental Science in 1903 as part of a gift to that university from industrialist George Eastman. In 1916 Modesto joined other cities along with Shasta County to form what is now known as Metropolitan Sacramento Association (MSA). MSA helped promote development around downtown Modesto while also supporting cultural events such as the Rose Festival or Golden Gate International Exposition (1949). The post World War II boom created many high-paying jobs throughout the region but also led to social unrest due to changes in work patterns; workers were no longer able to afford homes within walking distance of job centers like downtown Modesto or Northridge nor could they easily raise children without needing a family home outside of school hours because many employers refused to hire married women over 30 years old without at least one husband present on site doing odd jobs during off hours instead
Modesto was founded in 1869, and became a city in 1885. The city's first post office opened in 1870. In 1907, Modesto became the capital of California under the government of Gov. George Norris.
