By 1847 the Franciscans had arrived with 3 friars and 25 workers to begin construction on what would eventually become Mission Viejo Town Hall Complex—the first permanent European settlement west of Mexico City.Almost single-handedly due to his leadership during this early period—and continuing through his tenure as pastor at Our Lady Of Charity’s Church (later known as Cathedral Basilica), Father Fernando De Mendoza served as one of the original trustees for what would soon become Mission Viejo Township On July 14, 1849, while still under construction at our Lady Of Charity’s Parish House (later known as Our Lady Of Loreto Cathedral), Fray José de la Cueva y Pacheco published an official notice inviting residents from all parts of Mission Santa Clara County who desired to join him “in erecting a new religious house for God’s service … In obedience to your request we have erected here today a new building having dimensions not yet prescribed by law: thirty feet wide by twenty feet deep by fifteen feet high … We invite you all who are able to do so to come take possession thereof immediately [emphasis added]. In 1850 Fray José de la Cueva y Pacheco moved his headquarters from Bordas Rancho Encinal de los Olivos (near present day Roscoe Village) east along Sepulveda Boulevard into what is now Minden Park; he named it after St Joseph’s Monastery (now defunct) within walking distance where he also carried out much day-to-day ministry including baptisms and Confirmation surgeries among others In later years there were other missions scattered throughout various parts or neighborhoods such as Mayfair/Newport Beach/Valley Center etc., until finally all Missions were integrated back into one parish complex called “Missions Santa Clara County–Fray Jose De La Cueva y Pacheco(1850)].” This process gradually progressed until they had vacated most areas leaving only open space inside their former Missionsite boundaries without any inhabitants living there anymore . This left many abandoned lots throughout downtownLos Angeles becoming prime real estate locations for developers interested in creating high rise apartment complexes or office parks . In 1821, when Mexican President Agustín Vallejo ordered all Californias residents to convert or be forced into slavery, most of the missionaries and their families left for Mexico City. However, a small group of men stayed behind and continued to preach Christianity until 1834 when they were overthrown during an uprising led by José Bonaparte. The last mission in Mission Viejo closed its doors in 1867. Today, there are no physical remains of any of the original missions or friar buildings located within the city limits of Mission Viejo but evidence suggests that these Missions were extensively remodeled over time and may even have been abandoned completely at one point. Mission Viejo began as a simple hacienda with just 16 adobe buildings converted into a friary in 1777. By 1800, there were more than 60 friaries operating throughout California Province with more than 1,000 converts added each year. The first chapel was erected here in 1782 on land donated by Juan Bautista Alvarado and construction began on what would become our current square block development called “The Square” which had walls up to 8 feet thick due to the high demand for conversion space from other parts of California Province at that time. In 1821 Mexican President Agustín Vallejo ordered all Californias residents to convert or be forced into slavery so most of the missionaries left for Mexico City but a small group men stayed behind who continued preaching Christianity until they were overthrown during an uprising led by José Bonaparte which resulted in them being expelled from Mission Viejo approximately two years later circa 1834 before it finally closed its doors effective October 6th1867 after serving around 150 years! Now that we know a little bit about Mission Viejon history let’s take a look back at some key moments: - On November 29th1777 Father Junipero Serra laid down his religious vows outside this very square block today called “The Square” where he would serve for 54 years (until his death March 25th1851). It wasn’t until 1830 that he started building what would become our present day parish church - Iglesia de la Union (Church ofUnion). This beautiful structure still stands today cornering Main Street & East Imperial Avenue inside Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish A few blocks north along side Carmelita pre-war Shrine!) - In 1853 Don Manuel Antonio Cisneros dedicated this beautiful plaza off North Imperial Boulevard east across from Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish named Plaza Cerro Gordillo (Hill Top) after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who personally commandeered much land adjacent to Mission San Gabriel Arcángel including portions now adjoining Homestead & Rancho Rinconada streets! - Another significant event took place on December 12th 1888 when Fray Fernando Guerra with seven companions set out from Chihuahua Mexicali bound for Oregon via Sonora New Mexico Territory aboard the ship La Fortunata under then Governor Pio Pico upon orders from Emperor Spanish Americas Joaquin Murieta!! After spending 5 months sailing their way through storms and making landfall near present day Santa Barbara County they finally arrived safely at Monterey Bay January 7th 1889!!! They had originally journeyed 925 miles!!! As you can imagine this voyage ended up being very important not only because it symbolized Hispanic American aspirations reaching out towards opportunities beyond their native country but also because it served as an early warning system against disease outbreaks associated with new lands newly discovered!!
