These high prices did not last long though as manufacturing moved westward beginning with Ford Motor Company's establishment here in 1948 followed by other major companies such as Kaiser Permanente and Dow Corning later that decade In 1990s many small businesses closed down due to competition from larger companies or shifting technology preferences which affected most industries throughout Silicon Valley including agriculture where machinery has replaced human labor making it more difficult for small farmers To compete With large corporations especially after 2000 recession .
