Not only did Wheeler sell binoculars, but he also manufactured lenses for these instruments. It wasn’t until 1854 that The Grapes became known as The Binoculous Store. In 1855, Andrew Jenson opened a store called the American Exchange at 9th Street and Hill Avenue in Milpitas. This store began selling both types of optics- binoculars and telescopes- which would later become known as “binoculars”! Binocular sales quickly grew throughout California due to their ability to provide an outstanding view from any location! Numerous businesses started up throughout Northern California during this time (such as Eitel & Sons Optical Shop at 4th Ave & Castro St., Oakland), but it is The Binoculous Store that truly established binocular production as we know it today! By 1865, The Binoculous Store had shifted its focus from selling optical products to distributing knockoffs of popular European brands such as Rheingold, Braunwald, etcetera! Through this venture, they were able to develop what would eventually become the modern day binocular manufacturing process! In 1927, two men named Harry DeWitt and Julius Schwarz founded DeWitt Camera Workshops at 8th Avenue & San Antonio Road in Milpitas. This company became responsible for developing world-renowned film technology including motion picture cameras! It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula and is east of Palo Alto. Milpitas became an incorporated city in 1951. The first Europeans to see what is now Milpitas were sailors on a Spanish ship that passed by in 1797. A sawmill founded by José Antonio Narváez in 1836 allowed for the growth of the town during its early years as a farming community with agriculture being the primary industry until more recently when Milpitas has become an important center for biotechnology and high-tech companies. Milpitas was developed as part of a major transportation project to connect Stanford University with Fremont and Livermore via two roads: The Golden Gate Freeway (now Interstate 80) and Route 101. The project was completed in 1958 and was known as Project Sunrise. On July 4th, 1861, Californian Captain Kipp purchased Rancho Pastoria de las Pulgas from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $8 per acre ($140 total). This land included present day Milpitas which had been part of Rancho Santa Clara de los Andes since 1824 but it had not been claimed or surveyed by Alvarado until after he sold it to Captains Kipp and Wayman Inouye who named it Rancho Rinconada de las Pulgas after their ranch near modern-day Menlo Park.
