In 1901-02, Leland again partnered with Carnegie and opened a new plant at Millbrae which was known as "Leland's" Mills before it became part of Sears Roebuck & Co.'s empire in 1911. During World War I (1914-18), Leland produced munitions for US military forces under contract from General Motors Corporation (GMC).
