In 2006, Millspring Partners LLC acquired rights to produce cotton candy products from an existing millsite near Sausalito while also constructing a new mill on two acres adjacent to Millspring Farmsstead vineyards that had beenacreage belonging to Humble & Co., a flour manufacturer who went bankrupt during World War II. The millbrae area was first settled in 1847 by George Smith and his family. The millbrae post office was established in 1852, and remained in operation until 1865. In the early 1870s, a sawmill was built on the creek at Millbrae. However, the mill failed and it is unknown when or how this mill was replaced. A gristmill also operated at Millbrae from 1876 to 1898. In 1905, a flouring plant was built at Millbrae and continued to operate until 1978. The mill closed down due to financial problems in 1978 and has been demolished since then.
